EduCativ
ASU is committed to helping students create success — not just academically, but throughout their lives. Learning to thrive means access to an education that inspires students to become master learners capable of learning anything during their time in classrooms, laboratories, and on campus, as well as after graduation. This approach is vital in a rapidly changing world where new careers are continually evolving and emerging, while others become obsolete. The university takes a "students-first" approach, creating a variety of groundbreaking opportunities designed to help students learn and thrive in personalized ways. Studying at an innovation powerhouse delivers access to use-inspired technology, the vast resources of a Research I university, and programs that are unique to students' needs. Building on a legacy of excellence, ASU has rapidly enriched its research enterprise. In just ten years, the university has more than doubled its research funding and is recognized as one of the fastest-growing research enterprises in the United States (NSF Higher Education Research and Development Survey). By redefining the 21st-century university as a knowledge enterprise, ASU has inspired its faculty and students to lead discovery, notably space exploration, electron microscopy, sustainability, and human origins. Our interdisciplinary, solutions-focused approach to research, entrepreneurship, and economic development is centered on the discovery that matters and the fusion of intellectual disciplines to solve complex problems. Before Arizona became this country's 48th state in 1912, athletics were deeply embedded in the college campus scene. From the beginning — a baseball game in 1891 vs. a team from the nearby Mormon settlement of Stringtown — and through more than 125 years of competitions, Arizona State University's sporting teams have been a part of the fabric the state, and also the nation. Today, Sun Devil Athletics boasts a robust roster of 26 NCAA varsity sports and more than 600 student-athletes. The greats — from across the country and around the world — have come to ASU to represent the Sun Devils. From Floyd Bannister to Dustin Pedroia in baseball Curley Culp to Art and Benny Malone in football and Lafayette "Fat" Lever to Byron Scott in basketball, Sun Devil student-athletes have garnered headlines. Women's sports have produced their fair share of accolades: softballers Erica Beach and Marilyn Rau, golfers Heather Farr and Grace Park, and track and fielders Gea Johnson and Linda Tolbert are among the countless letter winners who have brought glory to Sun Devil Athletics. The Arizona State University faculty is at the forefront nationally in advancing research and discovery. Our more than 3,400 faculty members inspire new ways of thinking, innovating, and solving social, cultural, and economic problems in our region and the international community. We aspire to create an accessible academic experience and attract faculty not bound by traditional disciplinary distinctions but embrace an inclusive, collaborative, and entrepreneurial environment defined by excellence and impact. ASU is a comprehensive public research university, measured not by whom it excludes, but by whom it includes and how they succeed in advancing research and discovering the public value and assuming fundamental responsibility for the economic, social, cultural, and overall health of the communities it serves. ASU has created a vibrant environment of discovery, interdisciplinary research and innovation focused on solving society's most significant challenges. ASU is one of the fastest-growing research enterprises in the U.S., with research expenditures nearly tripling over the last decade. ASU's Entrepreneurship + Innovation group provides a range of services to faculty, staff, student entrepreneurs, and startups outside of ASU. Our entrepreneurship programs offer training and mentorship, seed funding, office space, and collaboration opportunities among entrepreneurs at various stages in their ventures. ASU helps make our local communities attractive places to live, work, and play. We connect with private industry, local governments, and community leaders to drive regional economic development that promotes human well-being. ASU International Development identifies and pursues projects that address the most complex challenges facing the developing world today. We provide a link between ASU's world-class researchers and international development funding agencies around the world. We engage NGOs, the public sector, and foundations in strategic partnerships that leverage our strengths to create solutions for long-term, sustainable development. Skysong Innovations is the exclusive intellectual property management and tech transfer organization for ASU. Skysong Innovations works with faculty, investors, and industry partners to speed the flow of innovation from the research laboratory to the marketplace while protecting intellectual property rights. Arizona State University Research Enterprise (ASURE) is a not-for-profit organization that performs applied research and development, delivering focused innovation and real-world solutions to meet our customers' needs in the Department of Defense, intelligence community, federal government agencies, and industry. The National Academy of Inventors (NAI) was founded to recognize and encourage academic inventors who have a patent issued from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The goals are to enhance the visibility of university technology and academic innovation, encourage the disclosure of intellectual property, educate and mentor innovative students, and translate the inventions of its members to benefit society. The Arizona State University chapter of the NAI, launched in March 2017 under the leadership of Sethuraman "Panch" Panchanathan, recognizes inventors and promotes innovation across all institution disciplines.
