Villa Walsh Academy, conducted by the Religious Teachers Filippini, is a college preparatory Catholic school for young women from grades seven through twelve. Historically, with 100% of graduating students entering four-year colleges, Villa Walsh Academy has recognized its academic achievements at national, state, and university levels. National Merit Scholars and scholarship recipients have entered top colleges and universities from coast to coast, armed with the well-rounded education that Villa Walsh Academy provides. Fully-equipped science laboratories, computerized classrooms, and resource media centers are all connected via a state-of-the-art wireless local area network, putting Villa Walsh Academy on the cutting edge of our technological age.
The Mission of Villa Walsh Academy, a college preparatory Catholic school, is to inspire our young women to expand their intellectual breadth and depth and enhance their sense of local and global concern, empowering them to influence their world Christian manner.
Admission to Villa Walsh Academy is selective and competitive. Some 50 students are selected for entrance each year from approximately 200 candidates. Most of the applicants are capable of meeting Villa Walsh's academic requirements. Therefore, personal integrity, motivation, and involvement in non-academic areas are also essential in the selection process. The school does not discriminate based on race, color, nationality, or ethnic origin in administering its educational policies, admissions practices, and school-administered programs.
Villa Walsh Academy is committed to the belief that all persons, being richly endowed by God with gifts of intellect and spirit, have a unique opportunity and obligation to develop these qualities to the fullest under His creation plan. The Academy is further committed to the philosophy and practice of the threefold purpose of Catholic education, namely to teach the Good News of Jesus Christ, build the Christian community, and serve others' needs.
Villa Walsh Academy aims to serve the student body by relating the school curriculum and experiences to one's basic expectations for a meaningful existence. Coursework covering theology, mathematics, the sciences, including computer science, humanities, social sciences, and the fine arts, presents a rigorous challenge and reliable preparation for a college-bound population. Advanced Placement preparation, honors sections, independent study, and academic accommodation for the exceptionally gifted and musically talented have also addressed Villa Walsh students' individual needs and talents over the years.
Administration and faculty assume responsibility to assess, evaluate, and develop the curriculum continuously. Faculty members frequently meet to study educationally sound innovations, which they may propose to implement on a departmental or interdepartmental level.
