Imagine a place where students are not only preparing for and looking toward college — plus earning millions of dollars in merit scholarships — but are also living meaningful lives today.
University High School of Indiana is an independent college preparatory school located in Carmel, Indiana. Founded in 2000, the school provides an educational and empowering environment for its more than 300 students, promoting faculty/student mentoring, a small, core-values-driven community four-year, student-focused college counseling, and personalized education.
The University High School program offers students a comprehensive mentoring program, a January Term devoted to creative and innovative learning experiences, and a daily community meeting that fosters a distinct school culture and a school community based on trust, respect, and shared understanding. At the center of the University High School, the experience is a set of ideas about students: that they are seen as partners in their education that they are challenged, listened to, taken seriously, and helped to become active participants in their learning and their lives that they are encouraged to think about the meaning of their lives and about others and to think critically that they are encouraged to develop for themselves a sense of what truth is.
The mission of University High School is to expand the hearts and minds of students and to nurture excellence through academic, creative, and physical achievement. University High School promotes an atmosphere of openness in which students can exchange ideas. We are proud of our small community and of how we are a diverse community. Diversity is fundamental to the mission of University High School. We reach out to include people of different races, ethnicities, faiths, socioeconomic circumstances, and educational backgrounds. We seek students whose perspectives can contribute to the classroom. The range of backgrounds found in our student body directly impacts the depth and quality of classroom discussions.
By actively involving students in the classroom, University High School stimulates intellectual curiosity and self-confidence. We ask students to experience great works of literature, art, and music. Students learn to listen, to respect other views, to be concerned, and to make an impact on their world. The faculty encourages students to become creative and critical thinkers and to exchange ideas freely. Students cannot hide in the back row at University.
University High School has a thorough and rigorous college preparatory educational program developed by faculty who build students' academic skills, deliver factual content, and push students to grapple with the subjects' meaning. Our academic standards are rigorous because we want our students to fulfill every bit of their potential. We challenge students, but we also help them succeed. Regardless of how students like to learn, they can count on supportive faculty who challenge them to do their best.
