EduCativPosted October 28, 2020SharePosted October 28, 2020 The Shipley School is an independent, coeducational day school in Bryn Mawr for pre-kindergarten through 12th-grade students. Through our commitment to educational excellence, we develop a love of learning within each student and a desire for compassionate participation in the world. Our school encourages curiosity, creativity, and respect for the intellectual effort through a robust college-preparatory curriculum in the humanities and sciences. Shipley upholds and promotes moral integrity, a sense of personal achievement and worth, and concern for others at school and in the broader community. We teach with the individual in mind, so all types of learners can thrive. While students may experience our curriculum in unique ways, a Shipley education remains rooted in a fundamental idea: We believe in a rigorous educational standard designed to foster creativity and individual thinking. A sense of preparedness and emotional development equips students for success. When you focus solely on the end product, you miss the steps that make a student stronger along the way. Important lessons emerge from everyday challenges. Lifelong passions develop in unexpected ways. There is so much intellectual and personal growth to be explored before an outcome is reached—and that is why we focus on the journey. Through a balance of rigor and support, our students become confident, successful individuals who are better prepared to meet future challenges and continue the journey that began here at Shipley. Our small classes nurture individual learning. With an average of 15 students per class and a student-to-teacher ratio of 7:1, every student has access to the teachers' time and attention—and every teacher can support and challenge their students as individuals. Shipley is committed to preparing its students to be leaders in a global society and to sustaining a vibrant, inclusive, and caring multicultural community. The goal of raising cultural awareness and understanding is reflected in many areas of school life. We are committed to cultivating an environment where all Shipley community members are engaged, feel respected and valued, grow as individuals, strive for excellence, and have the opportunity to do their best work. We honor and value all differences and are committed to being a safe and inclusive environment for all people. AAt Shipley, we believe in social justice and equity for all people. We value the fundamental rights of people and are committed to loving, respecting, and honoring life. Over the past few years, Gender Sexuality Diversity (GSD) has been an essential topic of conversation in our society. Shipley has taken a stance to ensure our students' safety and rights. We created a policy regarding transgender and gender nonconforming students during the 2015-16 school year. The following link will lead to its purpose, policy, and procedures. Shipley has also established unisex bathrooms in the lower, middle, and upper school campuses for colleagues, students, their families, and visitors to use at their discretion.
