For more than 30 years, this independent, coed college preparatory school has been committed to educating Tucson's talented and diverse youth. The Gregory School (now offering grades 5-12) has a proud history and a strong reputation in the Tucson community to provide students an unparalleled educational experience beyond strong academics.
We recently underwent a name change from St. Gregory College Preparatory School, and believe our new name better reflects who we are today and where we are headed. Daily, the mission of the faculty and staff at The Gregory School is to challenge and support students to achieve excellence in character, scholarship, leadership, and innovation, preparing them to make a positive impact in the world through pursuing their passions, appreciating and creating beauty, and solving problems. We can provide this extraordinary educational experience because we embrace the structure and philosophy of being an independent school. The Gregory School is the only school in Southern Arizona accredited by the Independent Schools Association of the Southwest (ISAS). We are also a member of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS).
An independent school is governed by a Board of Trustees and thus is independent in governance and finance from any public or religious entity. The benefits of being an independent school are numerous. Independent schools can provide individualized, high-quality education of the "whole child." Personal and social growth and nurturing of a civic conscience go hand in hand with the importance of developing intellectual curiosity and abilities. The commitment to challenging academics is strengthened by an independent school's dedication to conveying the importance of hard work, leadership, personal responsibility, and good citizenship.
The Gregory School offers small classes, engaging faculty, vital academic programs, advanced technology, outstanding arts education, bountiful enrichment and leadership opportunities, competitive and inclusive athletic programs, and international travel opportunities. Our cheerful, helpful, and nurturing community provides the foundation for a high quality academic and social experience for all of our students.
Our students find their voice and their passions at The Gregory School. They have written award-winning plays and newspapers, won numerous State athletic championships, performed in dramatic and musical shows, competed regionally and even internationally in various academic contests, made a difference through community service, and so much more.
The programs and faculty at The Gregory School prepare students well to face college and life challenges beyond school. Nearly all our students go directly to college after graduation, with many offered admission to top universities and colleges in the United States and abroad.
Since 1980, The Gregory School has offered a challenging curriculum, small classes, accomplished and dedicated teachers, a pervasive sense of community, and state-of-the-art facilities, all of which create an environment where students mature both intellectually and personally. The philosophy and mission, the foundations for all that goes on at The Gregory School, give insight to why The Gregory School experience is unparalleled in Tucson.
The faculty is the cornerstone of any school. At The Gregory School, we are proud of our teachers' proven experience and academic credentials, most of whom hold advanced degrees in the fields in which they teach. There is another essential quality we seek when hiring, however. Because our teachers work closely with students inside the classroom and with athletics and other extracurricular activities, our faculty must have a genuine interest in young people and a strong commitment to succeed in school and life. Our teacher-to-student ratio of 1:9 assures that students know their teachers personally and have ready access to them for individual help and enrichment opportunities.
At The Gregory School, we strive to make sure that students, parents, and faculty know one another, support each other in their successes, and work together to create a nurturing, supportive community. The diversity of our students, who come from a variety of ethnic, socioeconomic, religious, and educational backgrounds, enriches the educational opportunities for all of our students and is critical to the health of The Gregory School.
