St. Xavier High School's mission to "assist young men in their formation as leaders and men for others through rigorous college preparation in the Jesuit tradition" dates back to 1831, a 187-year tradition that has become the standard of educational excellence in Greater Cincinnati.

St. Xavier has been a warm, welcoming atmosphere of learning, friendship, and spiritual affirmation for more than 18,000 living alumni who have called this place home. We call this vast network of accomplished alumni the Long Blue Line. Our mission is to assist young men in their formation as leaders and Men for Others through rigorous college preparation in the Jesuit tradition. That rooted in the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, the school is an apostolic mission by:

• Naming Jesus Christ as the model for all human life
• Affirming the world as God's creation and therefore acceptable, but in need of redemption
• Recognizing family and community as a context for redemption
• Providing students with comprehensive instruction in Catholic beliefs and practice
• Providing students with opportunities for spiritual formation in the Catholic faith through participation in the sacraments, prayer, retreats, service, and other spiritual programs

Our faculty knows that they don't just teach Spanish or English or Science. They teach our students each one individually. Stop by the Math office at any hour of the day, and you will find teachers helping students through some difficulty. Observe a swimming practice, and you will see coaches teaching life-lessons as each swimmer competes against himself, trying to achieve a personal best. Custodians had made the difference in a young man's life when he needed an adult "just to talk." St. Xavier High School develops each student's mind, heart, and soul.

Our success is firmly rooted in the exceptional young men who walk our hallways and seek to discover their best self everyday young men who take pride in and make no apologies for being smart, but who are beginning to understand that being intellectually gifted is not enough -- what you do with your gifts from God is a matter of choice and commitment. Young men at St. Xavier experience success when they realize that, because of their gifts, they have an opportunity to impact the world through serving the needs of our brothers and sisters -- leading lives as Men for Others and that through discovering God's presence and action amid their busy lives, they come to realize a more purposeful life.

St. Xavier teachers have assisted students in honing essential skills such as public speaking, reading, writing, experimenting, calculating, speaking another language, and performing in the arts. Yet these classical studies take place with modern flair: digital language labs, SmartBoards, innovative courses in bioethics and health careers, courses linked to real-life through weekly experiences of service in the community, talks by remarkable guests, extraordinary access to digital resources, 20+ Advanced Placement courses, wireless connectivity for students, flexible credit options, and on-line courses through the Jesuit Virtual Learning Academy.

Every day, students and faculty members walk past the statue of St. Francis Xavier, who holds high the cross. He was a well-educated man who continued to learn as he traveled far, appreciated different cultures, read and wrote much, and mastered new languages. He serves as inspiration and guidance in our every day, which we strive to make extraordinary.
