When it comes to application review, SUNY Potsdam takes a holistic approach. We focus on previous academic performance, emphasizing the cumulative grade point average, and curriculum rigor. We also use a letter of recommendation, essay, and activities to learn more about our applicants. We are SAT/ACT optional.
It is the mission of the Financial Aid Office to provide information and access to funding for students in the pursuit of a SUNY Potsdam education and degree. We deliver timely, accurate, and transparent financial assistance to prospective, current, and former students in a way that is both respectful of and sensitive to confidentiality and diversity. You can choose from more than 40 majors and 40 minors, and we offer both bachelor's degrees and master's degrees. Among these classic academic pursuits, you will find interdisciplinary programs that seamlessly converge courses from several different departments, such as Criminal Justice or Women's & Gender Studies.
We also offer programs that incorporate cross-registering with other local colleges that provide a unique educational experience for students who want to maximize their academic years.
Outside the classroom, don't forget to expand your horizons with internships, volunteerism, and several other academic initiatives tailored to your interests and designed to help you succeed. We take pride in the quality of our programs and the students who choose them.

Student Academic Services of the Student Success Center assists all SUNY Potsdam students in transitioning to college life and graduation from College.
SUNY Potsdam keeps you active and entertained. Recitals, exhibitions, sports, plays, concerts, guest lectures, and more are part of the experience. With over 100 clubs and organizations to become involved with, you'll find plenty of opportunities to try new things, make new friends, and become an active part of our vibrant community.

Founded in 1816 as the St. Lawrence Academy, the institution known today as The State University of New York at Potsdam is one of America's first 50 colleges. SUNY Potsdam is also the oldest institution in the SUNY system. From our humble beginnings in a one-room schoolhouse, the College has grown to become a leader in creativity, applied to learn, and educational excellence.
