Oak Knoll's mission since its founding in 1924 has been to cultivate intellectual, spiritual, physical, and emotional development in all of our students. Students, along with their families, experience academic programs that encourage excellence in each student, a strong faith commitment, respect and reverence for each person, freedom of expression through the creative arts, a competitive athletic program, and active involvement in campus ministry opportunities that expand their understanding for the global world in which they live.

Oak Knoll School of the Holy Child, Judeo-Christian in heritage, Roman Catholic in teaching and worship, is an independent school for boys and girls in kindergarten through grade 6 and young women in grades 7 through 12. The Oak Knoll community commits to the education and growth of the whole child, as envisioned by Cornelia Connelly, the founder of the Society of the Holy Child Jesus. Engaged in the world's challenges, the school cultivates a faith commitment that promotes and inspires a positive personal relationship with God. In a learning climate based on trust and reverence for each person's dignity and uniqueness, Oak Knoll provides an intellectually challenging and creative program of study that fosters excellence in every aspect of school life and prepares our graduates to "meet the wants of the age." Welcoming a diverse student body, our learning community develops inquisitive students who think critically, embrace knowledge, respond with moral and ethical integrity, and make responsible choices that enrich their own lives and contribute to the lives of others. As a Holy Child School, we believe:

  • God is central in our lives.
  • A nurturing educational environment supports the development of mind, body, and spirit.
  • A rich and engaging curriculum promotes intellectual and personal growth.
  • An open mind leads to a lifetime of learning.
  • All voices deserve to be heard and respected.
  • Each person has gifts and talents that enrich the community.
  • Understanding and appreciating differences lead to the celebration of diversity.
  • A cooperative spirit and generous nature are essential to living the Holy Child philosophy.
  • Each person is called to work for principles of justice, peace, and compassion in every facet of life.

Research tells us that girls, particularly adolescent girls, thrive in the single-sex classroom because all-girls middle and high school classrooms, offer young women exceptional opportunities. Our rigorous college prep, middle, and high school curriculum develop qualities essential to a meaningful life — qualities such as self-discipline, self-confidence, leadership, critical thinking, respect for diversity of ideologies, and the ability to solve problems.

In our all-girls 9-12 high school academic program, nearly all girls take four years of math and science. All Oak Knoll students take physics, chemistry, and biology. Many students take a fourth year of science in one of the advanced placement offerings or the honors science electives program. Our ninth grade Physics First Program challenges even the most prepared science student to think in new ways and to gain a comprehensive understanding of the natural sciences.

Our college-prep program truly prepares the girls for the world ahead of them as Oak Knoll students travel, whether in the classroom or as an exchange student in Australia, Europe, or Canada. As part of the academic program, all students take three years of a foreign language to achieve proficiency in speaking and writing a language. Our middle and high school girls find the foreign language curriculum encourages them to appreciate global connections. They begin to understand the world today demands understanding and appreciation of world cultures. Our middle and high school curriculum is rich with an interdisciplinary study that spans departments and promotes holistic learning.
