Founded in 1915, Collegiate is a learning community built on academic excellence. Our JK-12th grade curriculum prepares students to meet the complex world's challenges and stand out from the crowd. Louisville Collegiate School is divided into Lower School (Jr. Kindergarten-Grade 5), Middle School (Grades 6-8), and Upper School (Grades 9-12). Each division has its administrative head and core faculty. Many faculty members teach in more than one division of the school. The students and faculty enjoy a small school environment's advantages while benefiting from the stimulation a college preparatory school can provide. The atmosphere at Collegiate is shaped by the close interaction of the student body and a sense of community within the school.
Small by design, Collegiate's size offers students opportunities for active participation in the school's life, the hallmark of our college preparatory program that ignites intellectual engagement, bold leadership, and remarkable character. Collegiate students actively engage in classroom discussions, connect with influential adult role-models, and develop their many talents within a vibrant extracurricular program of arts, athletics, and community service.
Even a school with a long history like Collegiate's must remain agile and responsive as it prepares students for success and personal fulfillment in an ever-changing, interconnected, and multicultural world. We are committed to offering the broadest possible access to our JK-12 programs by awarding financial assistance each year to attract talented students.
At Louisville Collegiate School, we believe reaching and challenging each student goes beyond conventional methods. At Collegiate, we strive to foster overall student development through our academically rigorous college preparatory program. We have student support services positioned in each division to work with students and teachers to do everything we can to help our students reach their potential.
Collegiate applies a team approach to ensure all needs are met. For example, in Lower School, a dedicated learning support services coordinator works with the math coordinator, Director of Center for Learning Advancement, school counselor, and health support services coordinator to create an individual learning plan to support each student.
We believe that our mission's fulfillment requires on-going, meaningful professional development for all faculty and staff. Meaningful professional development opportunities should further the school's mission, promote collegiality, and foster innovation.
Professional development takes on a host of different forms: internal class visits, external schools visits, conferences, internal & external workshops, continuing education, webinars, collaborative discussions, readings, research, published writing, working with professional organizations, online coursework, visiting speakers & authors, seminars­­, curriculum alignment, cultural competency training, technology training and more. Collegiate works to take advantage of all these different avenues to continue to grow as teachers and learners. The Professional Development Committee, made up of division heads and the Director of Academics, meets monthly during the school year to review professional development opportunities and to build collegial networks inside and outside the school.
