The unique character of every independent School is rooted in its institutional mission. It is Heritage Hall's mission to inspire in our students the curiosity to learn, the self-confidence to lead, and the compassion to serve. The School's motto – TO LEARN • TO LEAD • TO SERVE – is embedded in this mission statement and exemplified in every Heritage Hall student, teacher, and administrator.
Beyond skillful parenting, few investments contribute substantially to your child's future as quality education. In the most real sense, we are in the business of building futures with a challenging curriculum that places as much value on the qualities of intellect, character, and compassion as it does on traditional academics.
Inevitably, small class sizes, individualized instruction, and our balanced approach to a competitive, college preparatory curriculum have opened many doors for our students to succeed academically, but we believe that education encompasses so much more than grade point averages and standardized test scores the most meaningful learning happens when students develop the confidence to reach beyond their perceived limitations and find their edge. Guided by our motto – TO LEARN • TO LEAD • TO SERVE – we are committed to provide our students the tools to find their edge at every stage of a lifelong, educational journey.
While the School's mission determines our institutional direction, our core values shape our school community's culture. We believe that by promoting and teaching moral courage, personal responsibility, active kindness, and intellectual purpose, we will, within a matter of a few years, create a culture and climate that will to a greater degree than ever before "inspire in each student the curiosity to learn, the self-confidence to lead, and the compassion to serve."
We believe that while serendipity can be a useful source of learning, the lessons that we value most should not be left to chance. For example, a student may ultimately embrace personal responsibility without any instruction or encouragement from parents or teachers but the odds of this happening are greatly enhanced when the adults who are invested in that child's education are actively engaged in teaching the value of responsible conduct. We recognize that it is not the School's place to shape the character of its students without the active support of parents but their support is more likely to be forthcoming if the School delineates those "core values" that are at the heart of Heritage Hall's program of ethical education.
Our school culture is enriched by an educational philosophy that encourages kindness, truth, and service to others. As early as preschool, our students affirm the values of diversity, mutual respect, and social responsibility – not only as they apply within our walls but also in a broader social context. We teach our students that learning and leadership are gifts to be shared through service to others. Wherever we serve, we make a difference in the lives of others.
By the time a student reaches the School's upper-division, they will have amassed hundreds of hours in service as a school community; we donate approximately 20,000 hours of service annually. Distinguished by indelible compassion to serve, every Heritage Hall graduate is fully prepared for lifelong civic responsibility.
