Convent of the Sacred Heart combines an outstanding academic experience with an environment that nurtures each of its young women's heart, mind, and spirit. In addition to a rigorous and challenging curricular program for girls from pre-k through grade 12, we are a community of individuals working together to help form the "whole child," addressing her intellectual, spiritual, social, and emotional development.

Inherent in what makes Sacred Heart unique is a rich history that began in the 19th century. In 1800, St. Madeleine Sophie Barat founded the Society of the Sacred Heart in France, with the singular — and revolutionary — the goal of educating women. Her vision of personal growth in an atmosphere of wise freedom continues to guide us today. Convent of the Sacred Heart at 91st Street is part of a worldwide network of Sacred Heart schools. Our Goals and Criteria, derived from St. Madeleine Sophie's original concept of an ideal education, form our educational philosophy framework. As they have for over 200 years, Sacred Heart women positively influence the world by thinking critically, acting with courage and compassion, and manifesting an informed and lively faith.

Convent of the Sacred Heart in New York City's oldest independent school for girls, educating students in grades Pre-K through 12. As part of an international network, we are committed to a set of principles shared by all Sacred Heart schools. Known as the "Goals and Criteria," these principles articulate the core components of a Sacred Heart education and charge our community with a unified educational mission. At the heart of our philosophy is the belief that each child possesses unique gifts. Our job is to unearth those gifts, nurture them, and empower each child of the Sacred Heart to share those gifts with the global community. Our Goals:

We expect that each member of our school community creates an opportunity for dialogue, learning, and activism. It is expected that all members of the Sacred Heart community value differences that include, but are not limited to, ability, age, beliefs, ethnicity, family structure, gender, learning style, race, religion, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic status.
