EduCativPosted October 16, 2020SharePosted October 16, 2020 Cathedral High School has been part of the Indianapolis community since 1918. Her graduates number among some of the most accomplished business, community, government, and religious leaders in the state and country. As one of just 15 Holy Cross high schools in the country, Cathedral has been blessed to pass on the values and philosophy of educating the whole child, heart, mind, and spirit in an atmosphere of inclusion and Diversity. The result is that today, Cathedral continues to be one of the most diverse schools in Indianapolis. The school is at the forefront of education advances through an ongoing emphasis on next-generation learning techniques. Plus, Cathedral has the largest and most active alumni network of any high school in Indiana. Cathedral, a premier Catholic high school in the Holy Cross tradition, transforms a diverse group of students spiritually, intellectually, socially, emotionally, and physically to have the competence to see and the courage to act. Cathedral will be the Catholic high school of the future, providing the best possible education for the individual student with a firm foundation in Holy Cross values. As the saying goes, "Diversity Is Everyone's Business." Here at Cathedral, we want each student, parent, faculty, staff, and administrator to play a role in this critical agenda. There are so many ways our school, families, and friends of Cathedral can contribute to our commitment to Diversity. Cathedral's commitment to Diversity goes way beyond just providing information; it is about action. It is exciting to share news and information about the various activities, initiatives, changes in the world of Diversity in our school and extended community. A Holy Cross Education combines information and formation to transform our students and empower them to make a difference. We will place the education side by side with instruction. Instruction transmits particular knowledge and skills, while education (of the heart) fosters the values, attitudes, and behaviors which will use that knowledge and those skills appropriately and productively. The quality that defines the students of a Holy Cross education heritage is the training of the hearts and minds. Proper education is the formation of the hearts and transforming of values in people. If we are to influence the future, we must do what we do well to create a better time than ours. Even though we base our philosophy on faith, no one need fear that we will confine our teaching within narrow and unscientific boundaries. We will accept the discoveries of science without prejudice and in a manner adapted to the needs of our times. We do not want our students to be ignorant of anything they should know. To this end, we shall avoid no sacrifice… We will always place education side by side with instruction. The mind will not be cultivated at the expense of the heart. While we prepare useful citizens for society, we shall likewise do our utmost to prepare citizens for heaven. At Cathedral, our definition of academic excellence encompasses more than grades. As the founder of the Brothers of Holy Cross, Basil Moreau, believed we should provide students with every bit of knowledge they will need. But more than that, we should also give them the understanding and character to put that knowledge to fair use, for themselves and others. We believe that academic excellence is the result of an exceptional kind of educator. Cathedral teachers are expected to live by our Characteristics of Professional Excellence, providing students with outstanding academics and role models, mentors, and friends who will profoundly shape their intellectual and spiritual growth.View full schoolQuoteLink to commentShare on other sitesMore sharing options...
