Universidad Nacional de Tucuman (UNT), created on May 25th, 1914, is a federal public university located in Tucuman province, the northwest region of Argentina with activities regulated by federal laws funding and autonomous self-government to federal public universities. The highest university authority is the University Assembly responsible for internal regulations and appoints rector and vice-rector as head of administrative authorities. According to internal regulations, government decisions are issued by the University Council. Academics activities are organized trough faculties and high schools covering areas of science, engineering, humanities, and arts with a population of 70000 students. Since their foundation, UNT focuses on research as a primary source of knowledge creation, and international cooperation is a strategic issue in all research areas within UNT. Also, through diverse outreach programs, UNT keeps systematic cooperation with society.
UNT embraces research activities as the most critical component of knowledge source to improve the university education and assist the society with its demands. Research is managed inside faculties using projects planned in regular programs, including collaborative integration with local, national, and international agencies covering diverse interest areas such as Biology, Earth Science, Engineering, Health Sciences, Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences. CONICET, federal council for science and technical promotion, is the leading support agency at the national level and shares with UNT the funding of eight R&D centers where UNT graduates and Ph.D.'s develop their research projects.
Universidad Nacional de Tucumán (UNT) has a significant responsibility to solve real-world problems by linking their precious resources to society's needs. Students, academics, and staff share their expertise and energy with local and regional communities through activities as consulting, collaboration, and solution implementations with a high impact on health, economic, cultural, and social development. Also, the University plays a central role as a provider of cultural events and facilities within the society and therefore is committed to promoting a myriad of artistic initiatives. The University manages two symphonic orchestras, and two choruses also offer to society a theater, a concert hall, art galleries, museums, and additionally a natural reserve of 14300 hectares for the preservation of native flora and fauna. UNT will continue to take great pride in civic leadership responsibilities by working with our people to produce opportunities, choices, and solutions for today and tomorrow's society.
