Ohio University Eastern is your gateway to the expertise, talents, and resources of the entire Ohio University system. You can start and finish a two- or four-year degree on campus, online, or via the Ohio University Learning Network that allows students to attend live interactive classes taught by faculty from any of the eight Ohio University campuses and centers.
Whether you start here and stay here, or perhaps start somewhere else and complete your Bachelor's degree through our Bachelor of Science in Applied Management or Technical and Applied Studies, you will have access to the region's most engaged and accomplished scholars to guide you and mentor your studies. More than 50% of Spring 2018's graduating class engaged in an internship or first field placement under Ohio University Eastern's faculty mentorship.

Ohio University's Eastern Campus provides a wide variety of academic support services to assist students with their college journey. Not only does the campus have its Library, but support for students with individual needs is also provided by our Accessibility and Counseling Services. If students need extra help, a Writing and Math Center is staffed during the busiest times during the school days.
In the 1950's, the need for veterans returning from the Second World War to afford educational opportunities increased. To accommodate this need, a series of regional campuses of the State University System of Ohio began to emerge. Ohio University would have the dubious honor of trying to provide educational programs and courses throughout southeast Ohio, an area representing almost one-third of the state. The city of Martin's Ferry became the initial location of the University Campus established in eastern Ohio. Under the leadership of the Belmont County Commission and Consolidated Coal, over 330 acres of land was dedicated along the National Road near St. Clairsville as an educational site on what was once an experimental agricultural farm.
It was the vision of then Governor James Rhodes to have a post-secondary educational facility located within 30 miles of every resident in Ohio. Shannon Hall, the main academic building on the campus, was named after an early governor in the state. As educational opportunities increased in the area, a science and engineering building was leased to Belmont College. A Health and Physical Education Recreation Community Center was established in 1997, completing the campus's present-day setting. The grounds are also home to a one-room schoolhouse, an 1800's tavern/roadhouse used by those traveling the National Road, and a covered bridge on the eastern side of the campus property.
