Education Abroad at MTSU is dedicated to providing all MTSU students with the highest quality international academic programs and opportunities abroad that allow them to gain the knowledge and develop the skills necessary to become successful and productive members of the global community. In partnership with MTSU colleges, schools, departments, faculty, and staff, we seek to increase awareness of education abroad opportunities, promote intercultural learning, and advocate for diversity in participants and programs.
The MTSU College of Graduate Studies gives students a vast array of academic offerings, with more than 100 programs of study from which to choose. From short-term-study certificate programs to doctoral degrees, MTSU has something for almost everyone. Niche programs in recording arts and technologies, aviation administration, and public history attract top scholars worldwide. The University routinely hosts students who participate in renowned programs such as the Fulbright and Muskie Fellowships. We are a leader in graduate education in Tennessee.

The mission of MTSU's University College is simple; everything we do is designed to enhance our students' success -- academically and beyond. We serve working adults, parents, veterans, active military, and traditional college students.
Our average student is a little older than most college students and has responsibilities outside of the college environment. University College offers various programs and services that enable students to gain the most from their college experience.
MTSU is a few public universities in Tennessee to be awarded the Adult Learning Focused Institution designation based on their commitment to providing programs and services customized for the adult student. The Adult Degree Completion Program at MTSU is the most extensive adult program in the state of Tennessee and provides exemplary service to students.
The MTSU academic advising process's mission is to provide a quality, student-centered environment that promotes intellectual growth. This process is dedicated to fostering a collaborative and mentoring relationship among advisors, students, and the university community. Students are encouraged to think logically, critically, and creatively to assume ownership of their lifelong educational goals. In 1909, the General Assembly of the State of Tennessee moved "to provide for the improvement of the system of Public Education of the State of Tennessee, that is to say, to establish a General Education Fund." The major thrust of this "improvement" embodied in the legislative act that was to become known as the General Education Bill of 1909 was establishing three normals or teacher-training institutions. Following the act's intent that one was to be located in each of the grand divisions of the state, the State Board of Education assigned the middle Tennessee institution to Murfreesboro.
Opening on September 11, 1911, with a two-year program for training teachers, Middle Tennessee State Normal School evolved into a four-year teachers college (Middle Tennessee State Teachers College) in 1925. The degree program changed to four years leading to a bachelor of science degree.
