MDC offers credit courses and noncredit courses online. The Bachelor of Science and Applied Science, Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, and College Credit Certificate are available entirely online.
We offer noncredit courses for individuals who want to enrich their cultural experiences or improve their professional or occupational skills.
Our online classes are designed to address a wide range of training needs, in the comfort of your home, at work, or in the environment, you may find most conducive to learning. Online classes allow you to gain additional knowledge at your own pace and on your own time. Registration for our classes is ongoing. You may register online by clicking the button to the right. Service-learning is a form of education that integrates community service into a course. The goal is to educate students about service and democracy, prepare them for civic engagement, and encourage their development as ethical and responsible global citizens. MDC's Institute for Civic Engagement and Democracy significantly impacts the community by being a hub for information about service-learning and a leading resource that serves students, educators, and organizations throughout the Miami-Dade area. Arts and culture organizations function as employers, producers, consumers, and key promoters of their cities and regions. They contribute significantly to the business economy and attract a workforce that is creative and innovative. For more than 50 years, Miami Dade College has contributed to our community's cultural and economic well-being by offering arts education and thought-provoking endeavors in various disciplines, including film, the visual arts, literature, and the performing, and most recently, the culinary arts. On-campus positions to assist departments with clerical work and other duties as assigned. On- and off-campus positions designed to benefit the community. This program includes jobs tutoring elementary school children with their reading skills in the Miami-Dade County Public School system (America Reads Program) and other job opportunities in the public interest (Community Service Work-Study). On- and off-campus positions that complement and reinforce the students' educational and career goals. Off-campus positions are available with a host of participating employers in the community. On-campus positions are designed to assist those students who do not meet the eligibility criteria for the Federal Work-Study or FWEP. International students who are seeking on-campus jobs often use this program.
The School of Continuing Education and Professional Development brings a wide variety of learning opportunities to the people in our community through noncredit instruction in the areas of Continuing Workforce Education; Industry Recognized Certifications, Language and Computer Skills, Process Improvement, Supervision and Management Training, and any other area of need.
Miami Dade College opened its doors in 1960 amid the transition of desegregation and the influx of thousands of Cuban refugees. Initially, 1,428 students entered "Chicken Coop College," nicknamed for the original buildings that were transformed into classrooms. Dade County Junior College, as it was then known, was open to any county resident who had graduated from high school. The student body included the seven black students who made Dade County Junior the first integrated junior College in Florida. These students, along with the many Cuban refugees seeking to better their lives, paid a five dollar application fee, but tuition was free to all county residents.
