As Seeb International School (ASIS) is unique in its delivery of the Teaching Future Leaders Leadership program, nowhere else in Oman or even in the GCC is Leadership such an integral part of school life. As part of our unique vision here in Oman, we are keen to ensure that children leave ASIS with a strong sense of their mission and with an ambition for the future. When they are ready for the outside world, we want our students to leave with a desire to serve and to become the next generation of leaders in business, education, civil service, or whatever career path they choose. The ASIS Leadership program aims to develop the academic and personal character skills needed to be successful in life so that all students can make the most of their abilities and interests to fulfill their true potential.
The program develops the student throughout their time at ASIS from pre-KG when working together starts as a skill through to the qualification at Level 3 in Team Leadership taken during Grade 10 and 11. An international qualification issued by the UK Royal Chartered Institute of Management as an acknowledgment of outstanding leadership both in and out of school. Certificates are gained through each school year building a portfolio of teamwork and leadership along with personal qualities and skills. The ASIS motto is ‘Serve to Lead’ as this gives us a basis on which to build, when a student leaves ASIS we want them to have attained the ‘Serve to Lead’ principles
This program is in every aspect of our school delivered by teachers and senior staff alike. It is managed by the school's Leadership Director and starts early in school life working on teamwork and Line Leaders in KG who assist other students and their teachers through to our House Captains and Deputies. These Captains are senior students who take on responsibility for one of four school houses and who are selected in a vote by their peers. Leadership and team opportunities are offered to all students through their time here.
Our social responsibility centers both nationally and internationally with all students participating in social events and within their community. On the international stage, our senior students will be expected to undertake work in helping other such as the United Nations community work through to debating with other students on a global platform.
We don’t see failure as a block to attainment we see it as a stepping stone to achievement, when a student can overcome failure, seek help, try again, and return triumphant then he or she will have learned the ‘Serve to Lead’ qualities and true self Leadership. The school has elected to enroll students on the Cambridge Examination Board Syllabi and this will ensure our students have consistent expectations and techniques that they will be able to utilize from one subject to the next. These qualifications are highly sought after all over the world and are a pre-cursor for students to enter Grade 11 and 12 in their pre-university years. It will also guarantee that they are confident, responsible, and competent learners who will be able to access any further study pathway with success. The focus this year will be on the further development of our curriculum to ensure there is rigor in our assessments leading to accurate tracking of our students’ progress. We also want to ensure there is the consistent development of the whole child and there is an emphasis on the skills they need to help them learn new ideas and concepts. We need our children to be problem solvers, critical thinkers and not be afraid to take risks. This will empower their learning ability and enthuse them. Our lessons will be challenging but fun. Parents will be made aware of the topics we will be covered via the Grade Group Overviews and the information will also be posted on our portal.
We will also be working hard to ensure we provide our students with opportunities to develop their leadership skills. One such way is that the school has now elected prefects from the Grade 12 student body and they will be responsible for establishing a whole school student council. In our school, we place a strong emphasis on providing a challenging experience where everybody is included and everyone is successful, not only with the academic program but with creative opportunities and service to the community in the personal education of every child which will start with the very youngest children.
