St. Stephen's School is a non-denominational, co-educational, American international day and boarding IB World School in the heart of Rome. We enroll students from ages 14-19 in grades 9-12, plus an optional postgraduate year. Our diverse faculty of accomplished scholars bring the highest level of instruction to a diverse student cohort. A focus on the School’s core values of scholarship, integrity, and creativity inspires our students to become independent, caring, and engaged young men and women, who act as both architects of their future, as well as responsible and motivated global citizens.
Our students come from all over the world to pursue their high school education in an atmosphere of scholarly endeavor, creative exploration, and multicultural exchange. At 275 students we are small, forty boarders constitute our ‘nuclear’ family, the experiential dimension of our curriculum, which includes an extensive trip program, confers a ‘hands on’ feel to our academics and our location, in the heart of the Eternal City and at the crossroads of Europe, provides a rich cultural context in which to learn and grow.
The faculty at St. Stephen’s are scholars, artists, writers, and scientists who are passionate about their subjects and illuminate the minds and lives of the students they teach, each day and every year. St Stephen’s School is committed to rigorous child protection procedures and protocols and fully complies with Italian and US law as well as Council of International School recommendations. All new hires undergo a comprehensive vetting process and criminal background check.

We are the only English language high school in the historic center of Rome. Our unique and unrivaled location enables us to use the Eternal City as our classroom every week. With Rome’s cultural wonders everywhere, students engage with their surroundings through field trips, visits to archeological ruins, the catacombs, the omnipresent fountains, and the richly varied museums.
