Discovery College is an international community of learners who respect the diversity of experiences and perspectives we each possess. Discovery College’s diverse student body underscores the importance of international mindedness and the shared spirit of respect that is a tenant of the College’s Guiding Statements. We welcome students from across the Hong Kong community and are proud to help every student achieve his or her very best.
In addition to the robust and comprehensive IB curriculum, which includes specialist courses in the performing arts and PE from Year 1, sports and outdoor activities play a major part in the lives of the students at Discovery College. Sports are provided not only through a comprehensive and highly competitive College program, but also through very strong local sports clubs in Discovery Bay. Likewise, co-curricular activities provide students with opportunities to explore new interests across a wide range of areas.
The College’s location also provides a strong sense of community for students and staff alike. With no private cars, Discovery Bay is an ideal choice for many families. It is a self-contained residential area with its bus service, including routes to the Sunny Bay MTR station, Tung Chung MTR station, and Hong Kong Airport, as well as a 24-hour ferry service to Central. Its relaxed atmosphere lends itself to a more leisurely pace of Hong Kong living. It is one of the few places in Hong Kong where children can walk, cycle or skate to school.
The many ways in which Discovery College supports learning and prepares students for later life are too numerous to list, but I believe you will get a sense of our school community through this website and by reading our biannual Shi Jie Magazine.
Discovery College is an authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) World School and offers the three IB programs: Primary Years Programme (PYP) for students 4-10 years, Middle Years Programme (MYP) for students 11-16 years, and Diploma Programme (DP) for students 16-19 years.
DC’s Guiding Statements consist of our Vision Statement (with Guiding Principles) and Powerful Learning Statement, which help to define what is important for us as a school. These are underpinned by the IB Mission, IB Core Values, and IB Learner Profile.
At Discovery College we believe that powerful learning and teaching occurs under a shared spirit of respect, which dignifies and prizes our diversity of experiences and perspectives, reaches into our traditions as well as into the future, excites a passion for ongoing inquiry and strives to help all learners reach for enduring excellence.
The design of the Discovery College campus respects the context and natural environment surrounding the site. Older residential developments are perching on the hilltops to the south and west. The building form steps down towards the sea with a series of open terraces. The intention was to create a building that blends in and harmonizes with the surrounding natural terrain and minimizes the obstruction of sea views enjoyed over many years by our neighbors. In response to requests from residents, significant redesigning of the structure took place to further reduce the visual impact of the structure.
