The school’s mission statement is that every pupil has an opportunity to shine irrespective of language background, additional needs, or obstacles caused by deprivation. The school has to promote every pupil’s development to become a bright star.
All staff and governors work hard to ensure that the school has a happy and friendly environment. We promote, develop and provide the pupils with appropriate skills for life and education in the 21st C. Together as a team of pupils, staff, parents, governors, and the community, we create a welcoming environment at the school and very often visitors mention this environment. We are strong believers that through ensuring a welcoming, motivating, caring, and safe environment, that the pupils develop to their full potential.
We ensure that every individual has an opportunity to thrive into pupils who have a sense of self-esteem, in their fellow pupils, their parents, their staff, and the wider community. Regularly rewarding and commending pupils has pride of place.
Our vision is achieved by providing a diverse, balanced, and enriching curriculum through the teaching, support, preparation of valuable experiences, and very good resources. Ysgol Talysarn has joined the Gwynedd healthy schools Scheme and has been awarded the Quality Award. The scheme enables the school to make a positive contribution towards the health and safety of pupils, teachers, and the wider community through developing an environment that promotes health.
Ysgol Talysarn promotes health and consequently, this is reflected in school activities and school life. Sweets and crisps are banned during break time, eating fruits only is encouraged. Y5 and 6 pupils and council members run a fruit shop during morning break time.
The school has an anti-“Bullying” policy. The school runs a “Cyfaill Clên” scheme, where the older pupils care for the children who require a friend/games on the playground. “Circle Time” is used to promote good behavior and the pupil's moral and social development. School Council – A pupils committee that represents members of their classes on the council. This provides an opportunity for the pupils to voice their ideas on several matters.
Break Time – Wet and Dry Playtime has a special structure with various activities to promote joint play and social development. There is a teacher and three assistants on duty during break time. At dinner time, there is one senior dinner supervisor and one dinner time supervisor looking after the pupils. The school has received Gwynedd Healthy Schools Quality Award accreditation. The school promotes drinking water, and the School Council has purchased bottles for every child.
