The school was built in 1976 with an extension built-in in 1999. The school building consists of a hall, classrooms for years 3 and 4, Foundation Phase Unit, head-teacher's office, kitchen, staffroom, and toilets. There is a school library which is also used for the teaching of children with Additional Learning Needs and the teaching of music. There is an additional classroom for years 5 and 6 outside the main building. There is a yard that is situated at the back of the school in addition to a large playing field. The school has grown consistently over the last ten years and by now we have up to 120 pupils.
The success of our school is based on the fact that we are a happy, open and friendly school. Our main aim is to ensure that all children are happy and enjoy coming to school. To ensure this is the case, we employ the very best teaching and support staff. All our staff work hard and are committed to the continued development of all the children within the school. We provide high-quality teaching and learning. We ensure equality, access to a diverse and full curriculum, and nurture extensive skills for all individuals to develop their full potential as independent, lifelong learners.
Llanilar Primary School is situated five miles south of Aberystwyth. The number of pupils on the roll has risen dramatically during the last ten years from 58 pupils to 116 pupils. Llanilar is defined as a ‘Welsh Medium School’ according to the Local Authority definition which means that Welsh is the main language but we ensure that all pupils are fully bilingual by the time that they transfer to Secondary.
Llanilar Primary School aims to provide a supportive community within a happy environment, where everyone is motivated and challenged to achieve their potential. We believe that our emphasis on quality and high standards, in both work and behavior, will provide our children with a positive attitude for life and a firm foundation on which to base their future learning.
