The school opened in September 1995 with 118 children as a result of the ever-growing demand by parents for Welsh-medium education. The first Headteacher was Mrs. Meinir Llywelyn who was succeeded in January 1998 by Miss Gwenllian Jenkins. The present Headteacher, Mrs. Helen Nuttall, commenced her position in September 2009. The school is now a thriving community of 450 pupils.
The building was originally built as Caerphilly Girls Grammar School and has been refurbished to a very high standard. Overlooking Caerphilly Castle, a living history lesson, and with Caerphilly Mountain rising in the distance, the school is in a beautiful position. The vast majority of pupils from English-speaking homes. The catchment area covers Bedwas, Machen, Trethomas, Graig y Rhacca, Llanbradach, and a growing area of Caerphilly.
We are proud of our pupils and the high standards reached in the school. We offer a large range of extracurricular activities which enable the children to use their Welsh language skills outside the classroom.

Bilingualism has been described as "living in a home with two windows," and we are privileged to have proved the success of Welsh Medium Schools which brings us nearer the vision of a bi-lingual Wales. As we face the challenges of the 21st century, we realize the importance of passing our inheritance on to the generations to come.
