It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to Yerbury Primary School. At Yerbury, we are proud not only to provide the highest quality of a broad and balanced education, but we also place a lot of importance on our children becoming happy, confident, and fulfilled individuals. We believe that our children should be encouraged to do well academically, and should also be exposed to a fun and varied curriculum so that they develop a thirst and love for learning. We do this by encouraging our children to explore, discover and question through a range of exciting learning opportunities, where we nurture creativity, independence, and individuality.
We work together at Yerbury in a culture of collaboration and support, committed to providing a calm and stimulating environment. Mutual respect amongst and between adults and children is an integral part of our culture, where everyone is valued. We believe that these things all contribute to the warm and welcoming atmosphere which so many visitors comment on when coming to Yerbury.
Yerbury is a richly diverse learning community that values the uniqueness of every child. We know that happy, interested, and secure children learn best. We offer a caring and stimulating environment which allows children to become independent and grow. Staff, children, parents, and carers work together in a culture of collaboration and mutual support. We foster the long-term development and personal achievements of every child within our broad curriculum and in immeasurable learning beyond it. We provide a challenging, relevant, and creative school experience which nurtures a sense of social responsibility and inspires life-long learning.
Our hope for the Yerbury child is that they have happy, wondrous, and long childhoods. We want them to feel loved, be confident and feel safe enough to be creative. We want them to have found something they are passionate about and to have nurtured it. They will have had many opportunities to feel a sense of achievement, pride, and excitement about themselves and their learning during their years here.
We also hope that the Yerbury child cares about others, can challenge intolerance, and can relate and communicate with others to build and maintain relationships. They are resilient, know that satisfaction comes from effort, and are intrinsically motivated. They know what it is to have fun, to be happy, and to have been nurtured by a sense of belonging.
When they leave us, they might be beginning to know what their place in the world may be and have a secure set of moral values. We want them to be full of hope for their future and always feel part of the Yerbury family.
We want our children to leave Yerbury School with a lifelong love of learning. We work hard to promote curiosity, resilience, independence whilst ensuring that children enjoy their time here.
Our curriculum is taught through term long PROJECTS that are used to tie together the different subject areas. This approach has many advantages including giving a focus of interest for the children and making it easier for parents to be involved in their children’s learning. All projects include educational visits and often also a special event such as Year 2’s puppet show. All the National Curriculum subjects (ie English, Maths, Science, Computing, History, Geography, Design and Technology, Art, Physical Education, Religious Education, and Music) are covered in this way wherever possible.
We are enthusiastic about music and the other arts so all classes have two music sessions each week and we run an orchestra and three choirs. We have theme days and weeks each term in which the whole school focuses on, for instance, a particular painting or place.
In addition to these subjects we are committed to providing the children with as wide an education as possible so that we also look at personal, social, and health issues and at events occurring both locally and nationally. In this way, we aim to help our children to develop as rounded individuals with, for instance, confidence, social skills, and an inquisitive mind.
All our children are taught in mixed ability classes. Activities are differentiated to match the abilities of each child so that they have appropriate challenges and can progress at their rate. The children are usually taught as a whole class but may also work with adults in smaller groups or individually.
