By providing an interesting and creative curriculum that engages our children, we aim to develop lively and enquiring minds that acquire knowledge and skills relevant to their needs, now and in the future.
By promoting excellent behavior we aim to enthuse in all our children a desire to learn, as well as care and respect each other. The link between home and school is integral to a child's success and we encourage parents to take an active part in their child's learning. We see parents as partners in the education of their children, and greatly value their contribution to school life.
At Westbrook Primary, to help children with learning, we use a range of tools to support and scaffold their learning. These assist children to learn to think independently. At Westbrook Primary School, children follow the International Primary Curriculum (IPC). This is an exciting, cross-curricular, skills-based curriculum with a clear process of learning, with specific learning goals. It ensures that learning is enjoyable, active, and meaningful for the children. Many of our families come from around the world with very diverse backgrounds and the IPC is a fantastic way for all our children to understand our 'Global' community.
There are purposeful links and connections throughout the learning and each IPC project links a range of subjects including Science, History, Geography, ICT, Art, DT, Music, and PE. It also provides many opportunities for links to English and Maths. We aim to develop reading at Westbrook to provide our pupils with life skills whilst also promoting reading for pleasure and enjoyment. We strongly believe that reading opens many doors for our children. It helps to improve their language and vocabulary, stimulates their imagination, and allows them to gain new experiences. Therefore, we aim to create confident, independent readers who develop good learning skills and a range of interests. Reading for pleasure contributes to educational success and we focus on equipping our children with the necessary skills, as well as developing a lifelong love of reading.
