Wembley High Technology College is one of the highest performing schools in the country and we have been the highest achieving non-denominational school in Brent for many years. Nationally, the achievement of our pupils is exceptional in 2017, our Progress 8 score of +1.65 has been recognized as the 2nd highest in the country by the Department for Education.
Wembley High is, first and foremost, an outstanding learning community where academic excellence sits alongside the breadth of education. We believe in providing a structured and disciplined working environment in which all pupils can achieve their full potential. There is a very high standard of teaching across the school which, coupled with the strong work ethic, allows our pupils to flourish. Our broad, balanced, and innovative curriculum is designed to stretch and challenge pupils to reach their goals, and there is a particular focus on English, maths, and the sciences.
Spiritual, moral, social, and cultural education sits alongside academic excellence at the heart of the school’s ethos. We offer a broad and ever-expanding range of extra-curricular activities to deepen and enhance learning and provide an education that enables our students to gain places at the most prestigious universities across the country. We are very proud of the achievements of our pupils and to serve the local community.
Our fundamental belief is that all students are entitled to an individually tailored and holistic education. We, therefore, encourage students to sit exams as soon as they are ready, and offer a wide range of additional qualifications and extra-curricular enrichment to provide a rounded learning experience.
At Key Stage 3, we place great emphasis on giving all students a firm grounding in the core subject areas of English, Maths, and Science. Pupils are streamed by ability in their classes, and further setting takes place in English, maths, and science so that everyone receives appropriately tailored tuition.
At Key Stage 4, we provide an even more personalized curriculum that is geared towards students’ aptitudes and skills. The curriculum in each pathway consists of the core subjects and a range of choices that allow pupils to progress on to courses at Key Stage 5. As a unique feature of our curriculum, we encourage pupils to sit exams when they are ready for them and many will finish before Year 11. Those that achieve high grades have the opportunity to pursue additional courses or higher study in a wide range of subjects.
The primary aim of our Sixth Form is to prepare our pupils for the transition from school to university. Pupils have a wide variety of choices with most pupils taking 4 AS–Levels in year 12 followed by 3 A-Levels in year 13 and the vast majority of our students go on to gain places at leading universities.
Sixth Form students are encouraged to participate fully in Sixth Form life and play an active role in the College and wider community. Students have the opportunity to sit on the Sixth Form Council, be a Subject Ambassador, a Senior Prefect, or hold other responsible positions and are positive role models to younger students.
A variety of enrichment opportunities are offered in the Sixth Form and feature strongly in Sixth Form life. These include several long-term programs linked with outside organizations and leading universities, events involving the development of team-building and problem-solving skills, academic projects and competitions, and extra-curricular societies and study groups. We have strong relationships with Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, and Imperial College London and strong links with businesses and organizations in the workplace.
Wembley High is a multicultural school in Brent. We actively promote values such as "mutual understanding and respect" and equality between girls and boys, promote values of democracy, respect, and tolerance for all races, cultures, faiths, and beliefs. This is lived out in the programs of School Assemblies, Religious Education, English, Geography, History, PSHE, and Citizenship classes.
In our school community, we encourage our students to show responsibility to each other and adults in the way they behave in school and on their way to and from school.
We are a diverse multi-ethnic school and we encourage respect for religious, cultural, and moral values. The school promotes equal opportunities for all and systems are in place that counters racism, sexism, and all other forms of discrimination whenever they occur.
