We work in partnership with parents/carers and the wider community to ensure the success of our children. We believe that children deserve the best possible chances in life and that they learn best when there are strong links between home and school.

We are a friendly, caring school with high expectations for all our pupils. Our children are encouraged to explore, discover and question through a range of exciting learning opportunities both within and outside the classroom.

We aim to offer a broad, balanced and enriched curriculum to support children’s learning and to promote excellence.

English is taught through the use of the Primary Literacy Framework in conjunction with the ‘Power of Reading’ project from the CLPE and we use a scheme of work for their planning that incorporates speaking and listening, reading, and writing across the different genres. In addition to this Big, Writing is taught weekly from Year 2 –Year 6 providing opportunities for extended writing. For phonics, we use the Letters and Sounds Phonics Programme in Reception and KS1.

We also use Accelerated Reader in KS2 and Year 2 when they are ready. This enhances our reading program and challenges the children to be independent learners.

Maths is taught using the Primary Numeracy Strategy and the school's Calculation Policy to provide consistency in our teaching and to ensure progression in the development of mathematical skills. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for children aged 3 to 5 years of age.

As a school, we also use the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) to enhance our curriculum. IPC is effective in enabling pupils to apply skills and knowledge acquired in English, Maths, Science, and other curriculum areas purposefully and concretely. The school has linked all topic areas to the key skills children should learn in Science, History, Geography, DT, Art and Music/Dance, and PE.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum includes seven areas of learning and development – all of which are vital in ensuring children receive the best start in life.

There are three prime areas which are:

• Communication and Language – Listening and Attention, Understanding and Speaking
• Physical Development – Moving and Handling and Self-care
• Personal, Social and Emotional Development – Making relationships, Managing feelings and behavior and Self-confidence and Self-awareness

We keep these at the heart of everything we do so we ignite children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, build their capacity to learn, and form meaningful relationships. They are known as ‘prime’ because they are the foundations on which the other four ‘specific areas’ flourish.

EYFS Aims:

• To give each child a happy, positive and fun start to their school life in which they can establish solid foundations on which to expand and foster a deep love of learning
• To offer each child a wide range of new and exciting experiences and allow them to consolidate, explore and test them out along with their own, individual experiences
• To enable each child, through encouragement and high expectations, to develop, to the full, socially, physically, and intellectually
• To offer a structure for learning that has a range of starting points and unlimited opportunities for development
• To encourage children to develop independence within a loving, secure, and friendly atmosphere
• To help each child to recognize their strengths and achievements through experiencing success and developing the confidence to work towards personal goals.
