Our most recent Ofsted inspection graded us as good and noted several outstanding features. This was the third 'good' judgment in a row for the school. In 2011 the 'quality of pupils’ learning and their progress’ was graded ‘outstanding’ along with six other features.
These are exciting times for Webster (but when was it ever different?). We have been in a process of expansion from a one-form entry school over the last few years. We are currently designated as a three-form entry school. As of September 2017, we are three-form entry in Reception and Key Stage 1 and Year 3 and two-form in Years 4-6. On April 1st, 2013 Webster converted to Academy status after a long period of consideration and consultation. We are not connected to any Trust or Federation but are self-governed. We are part of a group of seven schools in Moss Side, Hulme, and Whalley Range called The Heart Of Manchester Partnership who work collaboratively on school improvement.
We may very well be biased, but Webster children are the funniest, keenest to learn, kindest and loveliest bunch we know. They are simply the best to work with. The teachers and teaching assistants are also talented, dedicated, passionate, and highly trained. We’re lucky to have them. We pay rigorous attention to the core skills of English and Mathematics. Most other subjects are taught through the cross-curricular themes which have evolved and developed over the last 5 years. As an academy, we have the opportunity to shape the curriculum that is right for our school community. We promote a unique entitlement to learning across The Arts, built on a special relationship with Manchester Camerata, one of Europe’s leading Chamber Orchestras, and the work of visiting instrumental tutors and Artists in Education.
We were very proud to achieve the SSAT Educational Outcomes Award 2014 and 2015 for our children's outstanding progress and this lovely letter from the Rt Hon David Laws MP. We promote a great range of trips and enrichment activities to add further depth and color to our curriculum, including strong links with local cultural organizations and schools.
Webster Primary School is growing from a one to a three-form entry community school for children aged five to eleven years old and has nursery places for three and four-year-olds. The school is housed in a large single-story building with newly surfaced playgrounds on three sides and extensive gardens and fields to the side and rear of the school. Nursery, Reception, and Key Stage 1 classes are on the Lloyd Street side of the building (originally Webster Infant School) while Key Stage 2 is in the other half of the building which backs onto the field facing Moss Side Brewery (originally Webster Junior School). The building is a 1973 construction that was completely refurbished through 2012 and 2013.
All visitors must report to the main office. There is a separate entrance for Nursery pupils, which can be located by following the footpath on the left-hand side of the main entrance. The main daily entrance for pupils is at the back of school off the main playground, pupils from Years 1-6 line up in the playground to be collected by staff at the beginning of the school day. Reception pupils should use their classroom doors for entry to and collection from school. The school has a current capacity for 592 children between the ages of three and eleven, which includes a 52-place nursery. In 2017-2018 we are 3 forms of entry in Reception, KS1 and Year 3, and two forms from Year 4 to Year 6.
Webster is a founder member of the Heart Of Manchester partnership of 7 schools in Moss Side, Hulme, and Whalley Range who support each other to improve teaching, learning, and educational outcomes for the children in our community. On our staff training day at the National Holocaust Centre, we thought about what qualities we want our children to have when they leave Webster and what we as a whole staff can do to ensure this happens. At Webster, we a have unique entitlement to learning across The Arts, built on a special relationship with Manchester Camerata, one of Europe’s leading Chamber Orchestras, and the work of visiting instrumental tutors and Artists in Education. We were awarded the Artsmark Platinum Award in March 2017, this is a huge achievement for our school and recognizes our focus on the arts as well as the contribution of all staff, pupils, and visiting practitioners involved in our journey so far.
We are an inclusive partnership of schools in the urban heart of Manchester. We aim to celebrate and serve our culturally diverse community through the delivery of outstanding provisions for our children and families. In a spirit of honesty and trust, our collaboration will aspire to instill a love of lifelong learning in our school communities, through mutual support and respect, so that no one child or school is left behind. We to ensure all stakeholders are provided with the right opportunities so that they can be the best they can be by achieving the highest possible outcomes. Our partnership comprises of 7 schools: Webster Primary, St Margaret's CE Primary, Claremont Primary, St Mary's CE Primary, The Divine Mercy RC Primary, St Philip's CE Primary, and Martenscroft Nursery School & Children's Centre. Within the partnership, we have set up leadership groups to share good practice, information and build links between our schools.
