Vyners is an extremely popular and successful Leading Edge school with an excellent reputation for academic achievement and extra-curricular activities. The school’s performance at GCSE and A-Level is outstanding – Over the last three years, we have been ranked in the top 10% of all schools nationally at GCSE and in the top 5% of schools at A-Level for academic progress. In 2016 84% of students gained a Standard Pass in both the English and Maths new GCSE exams.
Our aim is simple: We want to be an outstanding school in every sense of the word and we want to be confident that ‘hand on heart’ 100% of our students get a better deal here than they would in any other school.
Our school values: Community, Aspiration, Respect, and Endeavour, underpin everything we do and were developed in conjunction with students, staff, parents, and governors in 2013. These are supported by the Vyners 10 which set out the minimum expectations we have of our students.

We pride ourselves on the positive relationships that exist in the school and the sense of being part of a happy community. We are a genuinely comprehensive school, believing that all students bring their talents to our community. We value our students equally and take great care to make sure that every one of them is happy, secure, and successful. Vyners School values its longstanding role in the local community. We are proud that as many as three generations of a single-family have attended the school in its fifty-seven-year history.
We strive to develop ‘Rounded and Grounded’ young people, ready to make a positive contribution to the world. I firmly believe that the success of a school should be measured by where its students are five to ten years after they leave it. We have a strong tradition of our students attending some of the best universities in the country and our alumni can be found in a wide range of exciting careers. Many of them remain committed to Vyners School and return to support the current students as they strive for excellence.
Our school motto is ‘Striving for Excellence’ and everyone in our community is encouraged to challenge themselves to be the best that they can be. We encourage students to have big goals, stretching themselves beyond their comfort zone daily in lessons and during enrichment activities.
As a school, we have traditional values and high expectations of behavior, uniform, good manners, and attendance. These are the non-negotiable foundations of our school, modeled by all students and staff. Learning by its very nature is hard and we want to encourage students who are resilient, not afraid to take calculated risks and make mistakes. We want them to stretch themselves as we know that the most valuable learning takes place outside their comfort zone. There is no such thing as ‘I can’t do it, only ‘I can’t do it yet. This Growth Mindset is nurtured by staff and praised where it is demonstrated.
At Vyners we provide an education, which is relevant and stimulating so that each student can fulfill his or her full potential. The curriculum is well-balanced and offers a wide range of learning experiences, both inside and outside the classroom. We have high expectations of our students - we challenge them academically and encourage them to take responsibility for their learning. Those who need specific help to thrive are guided and supported individually.
