A standard one-day inspection was carried out by Ofsted on Tuesday 13th March 2018 and their follow-up letter confirmed that our school was maintaining its overall ‘Good’ rating.
The school has demonstrated strong practice and marked improvement in certain areas. This may indicate that the school is improving towards being outstanding. School leaders and governors have successfully created a culture where keeping children safe is the highest priority.
Governors and senior leaders have worked very effectively to provide high-quality training for middle leaders. Parents appreciate the school’s caring ethos which enables the pupils to thrive. They recognize the strong progress their children make.
Pupils’ general conduct is exceptional. Their positive attitudes contribute to their progress in the classroom. You have made great improvements since the last inspection to strengthen middle leadership.
The Inspector, therefore, recommends that the school now has a full inspection as Ofsted recognizes the potential for Vaughan to now achieve the Outstanding judgment. We anticipate a full two-day inspection within two years.
This is an excellent letter for the school and this is the best possible outcome for a ‘Good’ school under the current Ofsted framework. Governors and I would like to thank all the stakeholders who supported the school over the past few years and during the Inspection. I would also like to thank the pupils who were brilliant during the inspection and every day at Vaughan!
Vaughan Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all of its pupils. Each pupil’s welfare is of paramount importance and we are committed to upholding every child’s right to be safe. We will always take a considerate and sensitive approach so that we can support all of our pupils. We have a Safeguarding Policy and Child Protection Policy on our website which states our school procedures regarding concerns raised about a child.
This is in line with Department for Education (DFE) guidance which is set out in Keeping Children Safe in Education (DfE September 2016) which incorporates a range of related responsibilities for schools and newer statutory duties introduced to protect children and young people. Due to our commitment to safeguarding, each newsletter will communicate some key information to parents concerning ways in which you can safeguard your children at home, as well as informing you of how we are committed to working with all our parents and pupils, to actively promote the safeguarding and welfare of all our pupils.
Safeguarding encompasses all the things we do to protect our children. All schools have a legal duty to protect children and at Vaughan, our duty of care is to our children above everything else. Safeguarding includes child protection, health and safety, poor attendance or late punctuality, anti-bullying and preventing peer-on-peer abuse, preventing the risk of radicalization, e-safety, disclosure and barring checks on staff and adults in the school and behavior including ensuring no discrimination based on race, cultural background, sexual identity/orientation, disability, religion or gender. All staff has annual training including regular updates to ensure they are vigilant and keeping child safety at the forefront of what they do.
If a child discloses something which has made them feel unsafe, we listen and note it down. Depending on the nature of the disclosure, we will either speak to parents or contact Children’s Services for advice.
Sometimes this can mean an uncomfortable conversation with families however all staff are committed to listening to the child and responding to what they say. We will work with families to address and resolve any concerns as ultimately the best place for a child is within a safe family unit.
If your child has a health care plan because they have a medical condition, please ensure you inform welfare of any changes to medication or care. If your child has a medical condition and no health care plan, please contact Mrs. Ronaghan in welfare to request one. Health Care Plans help to ensure that we effectively support pupils with medical conditions. They provide clarity about what needs to be done, when and by whom. These Health Care Plans include all medical conditions including asthma and eczema. If you are unsure that your child should have one, please contact Mrs. Ronaghan. This is in line with the "Supporting Children with Medical Needs/Conditions" policy which is on the school website.
