The Rowans School seeks to provide a broad curriculum in which all pupils can develop a love of learning and reach a high standard according to their ability. This is done within a stimulating, creative, happy, caring, and respectful environment where pupils are encouraged and motivated to try new challenges to reach their potential.
We want to make the most of a child’s time with us and each child must leave with a grasp of core skills, concepts, and knowledge as well as self-respect and self-confidence.
The Rowans School offers an excellent educational experience to both boys and girls aged between 3 and 7.We are situated on a quiet road in Wimbledon, with beautiful grounds and large landscaped gardens. We pride ourselves on providing a nurturing and welcoming start to school life, especially during those early years when key social skills and attitudes are acquired and developed for life. We have a long-standing reputation for academic and all-around excellence and every teacher takes great pride in the achievements of each child.
The Rowans School is a co-educational independent school for children from the ages 3 to 7. The school aims to provide a dynamic and stimulating education for all. The Rowans is selective from Reception or above however places in Kindergarten are allocated on a ‘first come first served basis from our waiting list. Pupils may be registered for entry any time after birth. Registration is accepted in order, with siblings having priority. We welcome children for whom English is an additional language (EAL) and pupils with Special Educational Needs, and/or Learning Disabilities or EHC plans, providing that we believe we can offer them the support that they require.
The best way to decide whether or not a school is right for you and your child is by visiting. Weekly show-rounds are held throughout the year during term time so that prospective parents can see the school in action. Tours are normally conducted by the Head Teacher or a senior member of staff. Booking is essential as places are limited.
The EYFS has seven, inter-connected areas of learning and development. Three prime areas are particularly crucial for igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, and for building their capacity to learn, form relationships, and thrive. The main focus of the curriculum is to build solid academic foundations and encourage a love of learning. We prepare the children for the 7+ examinations to many of the local London Day schools. We have a successful track record of sending children to King's College Junior School, Colet Court, Shrewsbury House, Lady Eleanor Holles, Surbiton High, Wimbledon High, Feltonfleet, and Latymer, among others. We aim to reach a high standard according to each child's ability through a challenging, inspiring, and creative curriculum.
We offer a wide range of extra-curricular activities both within the school day and after the school day has finished. Staff and external providers arrange clubs ranging from chess, dance, cookery, football to violin, arts and crafts, fencing, pottery, and drama club. We encourage all children from Reception upwards to try a new activity.
We foster a nurturing, calm, and gentle atmosphere within the school marked by mutual respect between adults and children. Unkind actions or remarks and bullying of any kind are not tolerated. Teachers and teaching assistants spend much time talking, listening, and encouraging children to praise each other, to listen to each other, to take turns, and thereby develop confidence and a positive self-image. Should you have any concerns regarding your child’s pastoral care at school, please speak, in the first instance, directly to their class teacher.
The Rowans School is committed to being a safe learning environment for all members of the extended school community. Each child is entitled to feel valued and respected, secure, and able to take full advantage of the learning opportunities presented every day. The school has referred to ‘Behaviour and Discipline in Schools (2014) and is aware of its duties under the Equality Act 2010, including issues related to pupils with special educational needs/disabilities.
For children to achieve their best, it is vital that they understand how to behave, play and learn together in a considerate manner. To achieve this, we believe it is important that, children, staff, and parents value good behavior. In addition to the academic curriculum, we focus on instilling the importance of right, wrong, fairness, and tolerance. Children learn best when they are in a safe and supportive community when they are clear about what they are supposed to do and they are continually and consistently encouraged to do it.
