Established in 1630, The Blue School is one of the oldest Church of England schools in the country yet it continues to adapt to the needs of an ever-changing society and its children, consistently providing them with an “Outstanding” education as rated by Ofsted in successive reports.
We provide nursery education for children aged 3+ and primary education for children up to the age of 11. We are regarded within the local community and beyond as an excellent school and consistently achieve exceptionally high rankings in national league tables. The Blue School is one of the highest attaining primary schools in the country furthermore 99% of our pupils state that they feel happy at school.
Learning and achievement drive everything that we do at The Blue School. Our job, in partnership with parents, is to build the foundations for a successful education, to enable each child to discover the joy of learning, and to help them to fulfill every aspect of their potential. We promote Christian values and encourage children's growth into caring and responsible citizens, ready to play their part in the world and their community.
We work hard to ensure that every child is successful in the key areas of English and Maths and we are keen to see this recognized in the results they secure. Beyond this, we also want them to learn and experience more through a rich, creative curriculum, which is fit for the 21st Century.
We offer a range of extra-curricular and after-school opportunities that complement our work in the classroom. We value each child as an individual and aim to provide the opportunities for pupils to excel in areas where they have a special talent whether this is in science, in sport, in drama, in art, in music, or through involvement in our school council and other leadership roles.
Our curriculum takes into account that each pupil is a unique human being with a mixture of talents and needs. Through our curriculum, we aim to nurture and develop this potential for each individual. The Blue School affords high priority to numeracy, literacy, and the ability of pupils to express themselves fluently and confidently. In all subject areas, recognition is given to the importance of first-hand experience and practical tasks in the acquisition and application of knowledge and skills. As a school, we are not committed to anyone's approach to teaching but to using a range of techniques to achieve our mission.
By making sure lessons are fun and engaging, we aim to foster a 'love of learning so that children approach their tasks with enthusiasm and confidence. Teach ers' expectations of what each child is capable of achieving are very high and learning is structured, relevant, and stimulating to meet the needs of each child. At the same time, pupils are encouraged to set their high standards and to learn to appreciate success.
