Swanshurst is a highly successful, oversubscribed school for girls aged 11-19 years. We have outstanding students and we aim to provide an outstanding education for every one of them so that every student develops a thirst for knowledge and makes the very best progress possible.

As a girls’ school, we have considerable expertise in and understanding of the learning needs of girls. We have the highest aspirations for all our students and support them to achieve the highest level of academic success whilst offering a wide range of extra-curricular and enrichment opportunities.

Our staff is committed to supporting the well-being of all our students - we care deeply about them and believe that parents have a very important role to play in their children’s education. We actively encourage close co-operation between home and school.

Our girls are safe, happy, enquiring young people who enjoy their learning and relish new opportunities. We have a thriving, tolerant, multicultural intake that reflects the vibrant diversity of Birmingham. At Swanshurst School we use the term ‘Swanshurst Values’ to incorporate British Values into our school life. Throughout our academic year, we incorporate British Values to make sure that our students are prepared and upskilled to be active citizens in modern Britain.

Lessons don’t stop when pupils leave the classroom. As a school, we pledge that students are entitled to extend learning opportunities which include extra-curricular activities and access to a wide variety of trips and visits.

With a variety of clubs such as chess, African drumming, and numerous sporting activities such as football, netball, hockey, and trampolining, there are plenty of opportunities for students to broaden their experiences and display and develop their talents.

At Swanshurst, we offer a broad, balanced and exciting curriculum. Students study a wide range of subjects which allows them to develop skills and acquire knowledge to prepare them for whatever their future holds. We believe in inequality of opportunity for all and this underpins everything we do.

Of course, we fulfill the statutory requirements placed on any state comprehensive school, but as a large school, we can offer a more extensive range of academic, creative, and vocational subjects at GCSE and A-Level standards, all taught by highly qualified specialists. Additionally, we have an extensive, integrated program that encompasses personal, social, health, and economic wellbeing, together with religious education and citizenship.

After a foundation of two years of broad study, our students begin the process of selecting their pathways and are guided and supported to follow pathways that are tailor-made to their needs, abilities, and talents. We provide extensive career guidance so that our students are prepared to make the right choices at every stage of their education and into the world of work. We focus on employability skills and ensure that the students are introduced to positive female role models and have access to the full range of career opportunities. At Swanshurst, education is much more than just ensuring academic success. Our students are all equipped as future leaders, resilient and independent, and ready to face the challenges ahead.
