If your child has joined us for the first time, we welcome you as parents and look forward to a happy and successful association over the coming years. To those of you who have had children at the school for some time, we hope that we can continue the links between us. This booklet provides information on the school, its aims, curriculum, and activities. Confidence in a school comes from knowing and understanding what is happening within it.

We hope that you will extend your knowledge through contact and discussion with members of staff and me. In that way, we shall be doing the utmost for the spiritual, social, intellectual, and physical development of every child. If at any time you have a query please do not hesitate to contact me. The information in the handbook is correct at the time of publication and meets the requirements of the Education (School Information) Regulations. However, it cannot be assumed that there will be no change in the arrangements described during the year.

St Joseph’s is a co-educational day school. As a voluntary aided Catholic School, the basic religious ethos is to be found across the whole curriculum and with the framework of the School’s Mission Statement in mind, the aims of St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School are:

• We aim, in partnership with our families and the wider parish community, to enhance the spiritual and secular development of all our children in the light of the gospel values and accordance with the teaching of the Catholic Church.
• We aim to create an environment within the school that provides for spiritual growth. To promote an atmosphere that will enable “All” to relate to experiences that truly reflect faith, hope, charity, trust, forgiveness, compassion, and understanding. We aim to recognize and respect the different stages of people’s faith journey and to foster a working environment that allows all the people involved in any respect, great or small, of the children’s education to feel valued as a real and important part of the whole process.
• We aim to constantly seek to improve the quality of learning and teaching which directly results in high standards of pupils’ achievement. To enable each child to acquire knowledge, skills, and practical abilities through the use of a variety of teaching styles and learning opportunities.
