St Mary’s is a Church of England school which is directed, as all Church of England schools are, to have a Christian ethos. This ethos is demonstrated in the way the School teaches the pupils and interacts with everyone. Our Vision summarises our ultimate aim our Values are Christian but are taught for all to embrace our Motto is to be remembered by everyone and used to accompany our school badge, in place of our old Latin one.
Recognizing its historic foundation, the school will preserve and develop its religious character by the principles of the Church of England and in partnership with the Church at the parish and diocesan levels.
The school aims to serve its community by providing an education of the highest quality within the context of Christian beliefs and practice. It encourages an understanding of the meaning and significance of faith, and promotes Christian values through the experience it offers to all its pupils.
St Mary’s vision is to become a community where children develop a life-long love of learning, characterized by educational excellence, supportive relationships, and Christian values, which enables each child to flourish and fulfill their God-given potential, in a welcoming, safe, and stimulating Christian environment
At St Mary’s, Christian values are at the heart of our school’s vision. Through our faith in God, who is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we ensure that our values embrace the whole school community and have a commitment to every child achieving their God-given potential, regardless of ability, age, gender, faith, language, race or culture.
When we face challenging situations, we show perseverance and patience, and the resilience and courage to achieve our goals. We use all our gifts to serve others generously in love, humility, and respect, trying to become servant leaders like Jesus. We marvel at creation and the diversity within it and we work together to make this world a better place, treating each person as a unique individual and caring for and honoring the whole of creation. We are resilient and steadfast in our school and the world, believing and working for a world of peace, justice, and unity. We care for those who share our school and those less fortunate in the world, showing empathy, love, and kindness. We live lives full of gratitude for all that we have and all that others have done for us, and show this through our words and deeds.
We ensure that teaching and learning opportunities meet the needs of all of the pupils. We ensure that appropriate provision is made for pupils who belong to vulnerable groups, this includes ensuring that the needs of socially disadvantaged pupils are adequately assessed and addressed. In making provision for socially disadvantaged pupils, we recognize that not all pupils who receive free school meals will be socially disadvantaged. We also recognize that not all pupils who are socially disadvantaged are registered or qualify for free school meals. We reserve the right to allocate the Pupil Premium funding to support any pupil or groups of pupils the school has legitimately identified as being socially disadvantaged. At least 70% of any group will be made up of FSM children.
