St Mary’s is an inspiring and creative school that fosters a love of learning as well as developing skills for life. We strive to enhance every child’s moral, spiritual, intellectual, social, and physical well-being and celebrate every child’s gifts. As a faith school, we hold love at the center of all we do. Our vision is that every child in our school reaches their full potential and that they leave St Mary’s with skills for life. We hope that embedding a love of learning, will support them on their journey as they develop into young adults, positively contributing to society and being model citizens.
Application for admissions can be made from January before the child reaches his/her third birthday on forms available from the school office. A parent who wishes their child to be admitted to nursery class will complete an application form and the school’s supplementary form when requesting a place under criteria 3 and 4, available from the school office. The School does not have any specific units or facilities for pupils with particular special needs and there are no specific facilities for pupils with physical disabilities. The school consists of several interlinked buildings, on various levels.
This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All staff (including supply staff, volunteers, and governors) must ensure that they are aware of school procedures. St Mary’s Primary School carefully considers all aspects of safeguarding and has the following systems in place to support this to ensure that the safety of all children is paramount.
The internet has changed all of our lives. However, as well as opening up lots of positive opportunities it also comes with its challenges. There are many more things that we now need to be aware of. The PTFA is a group of parents, school staff, and friends who give time voluntarily to organize fundraising activities for the school community. The members also act as a point of contact for other parents and carers, who may wish to raise concerns or put forward ideas to help improve the school and its environment. The primary aim is to use the funds raised to provide ‘extras’ for the school. The parents of the school vote for yearly fundraising priorities and the school gives a ‘wish list’ of items they feel would benefit the children. For example, last year Friends of St Mary’s bought the outdoor tables and benches, amplifier and music equipment, and annual book bags for the nursery class.
At St Mary’s we want all children to have the opportunity to experience the breadth of clubs and extra-curricular activities available. To support families we are currently offering some funded places per club for children who are eligible for the Pupil Premium Grant, on a first-come, first-served basis. Children will be eligible for one place per school year. Please see Ms. Kennedy at the school office for further information.
School Council is made up of elected representatives from years 1 to 6. Elections take place in January of each year. School Council has taken part in lots of exciting projects this year, including attending a Road Safety Conference and taking part in judging competitions in school.
Our digital leaders are self-motivated children with a strong interest in technology. They help us to keep growing and improve our Computing Curriculum by researching and reviewing new apps and software. They also support other children and adults in the school to develop their computing skills.
We have a Catering Operations Manager from Ashlyn’s who oversees and ensures that all food produced meets the Governmental Nutritional Standards as well as the Food Based Standards. the catering company that develops our menus, sources the ingredients and train staff. Ingredients are locally sourced and where possible organic and always environmentally sound.
