We offer a rich and stimulating curriculum in our ‘village school’ in the shadows of the old Highbury Stadium. As a church of England school, we are keen that children can explore their spirituality and experience their first years of education in a loving and supportive environment which is underpinned by strong Christian values.

At St John’s Highbury Vale we believe that the curriculum should be as broad and balanced as possible, offering children the opportunity to achieve success in many different areas. Although our curriculum adheres to the statutory elements of the National Curriculum 2014, other planned opportunities make up the wider curriculum at our school.

We are committed to providing an environment that encourages all pupils to maximize their potential, including those who display special gifts or talents.

More able pupils are defined as achieving above age expected levels in all subject areas. Gifted pupils are defined as excelling (performing significantly above age expected levels) in an academic area of writing, maths, science, ICT, languages, or humanities.

Talented pupils have a specific ability in a non-academic area such as art, music, drama, dance, or another area of sport which is way beyond that expected at their age.

We would expect approximately 25% of our pupils to fall into the more able, gifted, and talented category. Of these, approximately 10% may fall solely into the gifted or talented category. These categories are fluid and a child may move in and out of them over their school career.
