We work very closely in partnership with our parents/carers and value your help and support in providing the very best all-around education with high standards and expectations. We provide a structured and balanced curriculum in line with local and national priorities in well-maintained and resourced surroundings. We encourage a pleasant, caring, well-ordered and purposeful environment where talents are recognized and achievements rewarded. A strong emphasis is placed on our Christian faith and we aim to develop a genuine knowledge and love of God in our children’s lives.

The Scottish Curriculum is currently under review and schools are working towards implementing “Curriculum for Excellence”, which is based on the following values in Scottish Education:

• Integrity

The Purpose of Scottish Education in the 21st Century is to ensure that our children are:- Successful Learners, Confident Individuals Responsible Citizens, and Effective Contributors. In St Brigid’s Primary School, we believe that we are already developing these four capacities in our children, and continue to strive for excellence.

As a Catholic school, relationships in St Brigid’s Primary are founded on the belief that each person is made in the image and likeness of God. This document describes the approaches and procedures that will be used throughout the school in our promotion of positive behavior. As it is a whole-school approach, it imposes a large degree of collective responsibility upon everyone to adhere to the procedures detailed below and to remain ‘true to the spirit’ of the positive approach philosophy. However, we have also tried to retain a measure of flexibility that will allow staff to use their judgment in each situation they deal with and to react appropriately to the circumstances of the moment. Children’s behavior is often referred to in this document. By behavior, we mean not only how children treat each other and their surroundings, but also their attitudes to work and the way they approach their learning.

The rules outlined below cover nearly all eventualities and should operate in all areas throughout the school. The left-hand column contains positive rules and we should encourage children to observe these. The right-hand column contains more traditional negative rules and children should be discouraged from behaving in the way described. While the emphasis should always be on the positive promotion of the first set, there will be times when it is more appropriate to say, ‘Don’t!’
