St Bernard's Primary School is a Roman Catholic Denominational, co-educational school, covering stages Primary 1 - Primary 7. The school currently has a roll of 376 children. St Bernard's Primary School is located on the South Side of Glasgow City, within the Priesthill / Nitshill area. At St Bernard's Primary School we encourage our children to take pride in themselves and their school community. We support our children to make full use of their learning potential by providing varied and stimulating experiences.
We offer our pupils a wide curriculum, based on National Guidelines 5-14 and current advice from Glasgow City Council, to promote the skills necessary for life. Although the areas of the curriculum are illustrated individually, they are interrelated. Within the varied curriculum, we aim to provide equal opportunities for all our children, regardless of ability, gender, or race. Multi-cultural and anti-racist education is actively promoted in this school, as is education for Active Citizenship.
In St Bernard’s we operate a “house” system to award points for good behavior, positive attitude, and good work. This is to encourage and promote good citizenship. Each Castle is populated by pupils from each class to ensure an even spread of ages across the School. Every week Castle points are totaled - with the "winning" Castle being rewarded with extra playtime. At the end of the School year, the Castle with the most points overall wins a day out to a castle!
Eco-Schools is an international initiative designed to encourage whole-school action for the environment. It is an environmental management tool, learning resource, and recognized award scheme. We are proud to announce that we have now won our first Green Flag!
In the interests of all pupils and staff safety, all visitors must report to the School Office. Visitors should sign the Visitors` Book and wear a Visitors` Badge if they are moving around the school. This protects the safety of all visitors in the event of an emergency and identifies them to other school users. No direct approach should be made to Classrooms as this is very disruptive to pupils` learning. Parents wishing to speak with the Class Teacher will be able to do so by appointment.
