Ravensbury Community School is two form entry school at the heart of a warm and vibrant community in East Manchester. We currently have 453 pupils in school, including a 52 place Nursery. We are situated in a modern two-story building very close to the Etihad Stadium. We are a highly inclusive school and benefit tremendously from the diversity of the community we serve. We believe wholeheartedly in the holistic development of our pupils – academically, physically, socially, and emotionally.
Our team of talented and committed teachers ensures that learning is engaging and inspiring and because of this, our pupils make excellent progress and reach high standards. Lessons and the curriculum are designed to give our pupils plenty of time to acquire good skills and to become fluent in their understanding and use of these skills so that their minds may be freed up to reason, apply, invent and create.
We know that children work best if there is a good partnership with parents and so we ensure that our links are excellent. Ravensbury offers its parents a range of opportunities to engage with their children’s learning and to have an active voice in the development of the school. It is part of our vision to ensure that we work together to enable children to achieve their full potential in our happy and secure environment.
Each year pupils, teachers, governors, and parents work together to understand our strengths and weaknesses and to build and improve where necessary. We have yearly School Improvement Plans to focus our actions and ensure that we are continually working towards the vision. We keep our values and principles at the forefront of all we do. Each year, we pursue the highest possible academic excellence for every pupil, monitoring, evaluating, and reflecting upon our teaching and learning and how this impacts our pupils’ progress so that each year, we can build upon academic excellence.

At Ravensbury Community School, we believe all our pupils can achieve their very best. We believe they will soar. Lessons are stimulating and pacy and pupils are active in making decisions about how and what they are learning. Lessons and the curriculum are designed to expect pupils to secure their year group’s learning and to have plenty of opportunities to deepen and stretch that learning. We plan so our pupils can make meaningful and exciting connections between their experiences and a growing understanding of the world we live in. We build upon what we believe is a natural curiosity to question, explore and make sense of the world and each other. Our teaching and learning are ACTIVE, COLLABORATIVE, and COGNITIVE.
We have established key principles which we wholeheartedly and unanimously believe enable all pupils to learn as effectively as possible and enable each teacher to teach and assess as effectively as possible.
Pupils spend time becoming true masters of content and applying and being creative with new knowledge and skills in multiple ways. Learning is taken at a steadier and deeper pace, ensuring that no child is left behind, as well as providing deeper and richer experiences for children who are very capable of deepening their learning even more and achieving higher than the national expectation for their age group.
Children at Ravensbury are taught Geography, History, Art, Music, and RE through our Creative Curriculum (CC). Sometimes ICT and Science will also be incorporated into this learning. This is an approach to teaching and learning that builds the children’s skills, knowledge, and understanding and leads to an experience the children undertake to demonstrate their proficiency in the learning whilst using the learning in real-life situations.
The experiences are designed to take the children beyond the ordinary and to ignite natural curiosity and stimulate creativity. Experiences offered to the children are practical, real, and memorable, such as holding an Art Exhibition, producing a fashion show, recreating the first Olympic Games, running a Cafè or publishing a poetry book.
School Governors now play an increasingly significant role in the running of schools. We feel it’s a huge privilege to serve the school, and play our part in ensuring the children at Ravensbury receive the education they deserve. School governing bodies are made up of volunteers who are responsible for working with the school to ensure that it delivers a good quality education. Individual governors bring a range of experience to the group, drawing on their professional expertise and often their knowledge of the school as parents or as part of the local community.
