Raddlebarn Primary & Nursery School is a vibrant, multicultural school in Selly Oak, Birmingham. We offer an enriching curriculum based on National Curriculum requirements. Lessons and activities are stimulating and engaging for the children and center on meeting the needs and abilities of all individuals.

Raddlebarn Primary School is a popular two-form entry school in Selly Oak. Our mission statement is our school’s main aim: ‘Success for All’. We are a fully inclusive school where all the children achieve. In our school ‘it is alright to be different and ‘there are no outsiders.’ This is achieved through the fundamental British Values of respect and tolerance, democracy, individual liberty, and rule of law. We celebrate and recognize all children’s talents, both within and beyond our school, and these are reflected in our shared values and vision.

We provide a wide range of opportunities and learning challenges for all children, whatever their abilities. We encourage children to value their achievements, both personal and academic and to celebrate the success of others. We help children to improve their skills and abilities with determination, persistence and to be prepared to work to the best of their abilities both alone and in co-operation with others.

As a school, we pride ourselves on the professional development we offer our staff, which has a direct and positive impact on our pupils’ learning. We are extremely proud to be a Rights Respecting School and a Music Quality Mark school, with an active orchestra and school choirs. Our children enjoy access to a wide variety of sporting opportunities through the curriculum and in many out-of-hours school clubs. Our children take part in a broad range of sporting events and competitions between local schools too. We also offer a range of after-school clubs for all ages.

We have a well-established partnership with schools in the Kings Norton consortium and are currently developing international links with primary schools around the world. This enables us to provide an enriched and exciting curriculum for our pupils through the teaching and learning opportunities this brings. Our school community is fortunate to be so well supported by the Friends of Raddlebarn, our parents and teachers association. They are fully involved in the life of the school and provide our children with exciting, fun opportunities which enrich their learning. They run fundraising events for the school and support a range of very worthwhile charities.

Our governing body plays an active, leading role in the strategic direction of the school and guiding the decisions that are made. They are fully committed to ensuring our children receive the best education through the opportunities, resources, and experiences we provide. They play a vital role in the life of the school.

At Raddlebarn Primary School we follow the National curriculum (2014) for all core and non-core subjects. We follow the agreed Birmingham Syllabus for RE. We follow a ‘themed’ approach for teaching a range of non-core subjects (art, design technology, science, history, geography, music) and where relevant encourage a cross-curricular approach to the children’s learning. All topics are introduced with either a trip, visit, or a ‘wow’ factor to enthuse the children.

Personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) education allow learning opportunities and experiences that help children grow and develop as individuals and as members of families and of social and economic communities. It supports children to make informed decisions about their lives. The curriculum contributes to pupils’ life chances, developing knowledge, understanding, skills, and attitudes.
