We are a small and friendly primary school set on extensive grounds. We have 170 children from 3 to 11 years old, including our full-time Nursery. We are located in the Victorian seaside town of Porthcawl and are close to several sandy beaches. We want everyone in our school community to feel cared for and supported whilst achieving their full potential. We believe strongly in developing the whole child and therefore focus on relationships and wellbeing whilst continuing to pursue excellent academic standards. We have high expectations for all our children and provide high-quality teaching and learning experiences.

We have achieved the Welsh Government School Categorisation of 1A Green and have also had a very successful Estyn Inspection (please see report below). We know that close links between teachers and parents are essential. We want the community to become fully involved in the life of the school and look forward to everyone working happily together during their time at Porthcawl Primary School.

The vision of Porthcawl Primary School is that, by pursuing excellence, every pupil is enabled to reach their potential as confident lifelong learners. In partnership with parents and carers, Porthcawl Primary School’s mission is to give children a thorough, all-around education, to prepare them to participate positively in the local community, society, and the globe. We will accomplish this mission by delivering a well-planned, prepared, and resourced curriculum in a safe, happy, and disciplined community environment in which each child is treated as an individual with unique talents and potential.

From 2012 to 2015, Porthcawl Primary School will seek to meet its mission by adopting the following aims:

• Raising standards of teaching and learning
• Ensure that all staff have relevant professional development
• Consult with the partners in our school
• Ensure that behavior and attitudes to school reflect the highest expectations of all staff
• Monitor, evaluate, and improve our school.
