Parkside Studio College is part of The Rosedale Hewens Academy Trust, providing education for students aged 14 to 19. Since its inception in September 2012, Parkside has been pivotal to students wishing to succeed in the areas of Creative Media, Construction, Health and Social Care, Hospitality and Catering, Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy, and also the Sport and Leisure sectors.
Building on the inclusive and enterprising ethos which has brought success to the students of Rosedale and Hewens College, Parkside offers young people even greater choice by providing something different, something new, and something that is unique. Parkside can provide sound theoretic learning and direct work with employers on briefs that have been designed with the workplace in mind. Professional qualifications are taken at the same time as academic ones, leading directly to apprenticeships or employment.
The overarching strategic objective of Parkside Studio College is to provide an exceptional background in learning and training for young people who wish to succeed in the areas of Creative Media, Construction, Health and Social Care, Hospitality and Catering, Hairdressing, and Beauty Therapy, together with the Sport and Leisure sectors. The educational offer at the College is quite distinct, yet complementary to other courses available in Hillingdon and West London. Although most courses offering the aforementioned areas provide either vocational or academic pathways, Parkside, with its strong links with business, can provide sound theoretic learning and direct work with employers. Professional qualifications can be taken at the same time as academic ones, leading directly to apprenticeships or employment.
At Parkside Studio College, we have developed a new approach to education that combines high-quality classroom learning with practical work-related activities both in and beyond the College. Students who attend Parkside not only continue to gain qualifications in traditional core subjects but also become experts in their chosen pathway. These specialist courses are delivered through the use of industry-standard, state-of-the-art equipment in newly refurbished buildings. Considerable investment has been made to ensure that young people can develop the skills, experiences, and qualifications necessary to succeed in an increasingly competitive employment market.
Our learners will be enquiring we encourage curiosity as this is essential for the entrepreneurial spirit. Our learners will be alive to experimentation and open to looking at the world from different perspectives. Students will become confident, professional, and emotionally intelligent as they gain their experience of the working environment and adapt accordingly. Skills will accrue as will the ability to work independently, with others, and take instructions and direction. In other words, 'learning to work, at work, for work'.
Our local and wider community is important to us. As well as the strong partnership working with local businesses and organizations, we involve residents in key events. Both within and beyond the classroom, Parkside aims to encourage respect for the wider community, providing opportunities for the learners to channel their energies effectively into positive involvement with the local community.
The provision on offer at Parkside Studio College is very different from that of any other local school. Studio Schools are designed to combine learning and working to ensure young people are fully prepared for what the future holds. All students at Parkside Studio College are treated as young adults, taking their first steps into the workplace. This is an exciting time for the students immensely rewarding and fulfilling, giving them each a sense of purpose and direction.
We aim to ensure students become experienced, qualified, and highly employable young people. To make them well placed for the future, they have direct experience of the workplace together with qualifications that demonstrate their level of ability. In other words, learners who can ‘think like professional men and women’ and be ‘work wise’.
In today’s competitive job market, employers are looking for more than just highly qualified individuals. Our mission, therefore, is to ensure that young people are equipped with the skills of their chosen pathway, have qualifications to demonstrate their ability, and have real-life experience of the workplace. By accepting their place at the Studio College, learners are embarking on the first stage of their careers in their chosen area to give them the qualifications and experiences to ensure that they are ‘work ready’ and an asset to any future employer.
