Ogmore Vale Primary School is a Bridgend County maintained school for pupils between the ages of 3 – 11 years. It is an English medium school, but has a strong Welsh ethos due to the teaching of Welsh and also by the colloquial Welsh language that is spoken by staff and pupils. Our school was built in 2003 in the Ogmore Vale Village to join Tynewydd Juniors, Fronwen Primary, and Aber Infants together.
Our mission statement is based upon our school community’s core values. At Ogmore Vale, we are committed to nurturing children to become happy, confident, and resilient lifelong learners. Together we shall champion children to become responsible, honest, and respectful global citizens. We will inspire children to embrace their imagination and creativity in preparation for their future, to be the best they can be.
The school achieved success in the most recent ESTYN Inspection (2011) with many very good features. We have the Basic Skills, Quality Mark, for Maths and Literacy and we are also very proud of our Platinum Eco-Schools and Healthy Schools awards. We currently have 368 pupils on roll and we continue to sustain a very good pupil staff ratio. The school recognizes the needs of the wider community and is committed to providing life opportunities long learning. We provide a breakfast club from 7.55 am.
We also provide a range of extracurricular activities for the children and adult education opportunities. Our Family and Community Engagement ethos is a strength of the school and we are always striving to strengthen relationships with all stakeholders. The school makes full use of grants available for improvements to support learning and continues to improve its facilities and programs to enhance and enrich the curriculum. A copy of the school improvement plan targets can be obtained from the Main Office and is available to view online.
The school building is well organized, spacious, and on a single level, allowing excellent access to all pupils and adults. Outside, we have three yards with climbing frames and there is a large grassed field with a small planted garden. All classes use the outdoor areas and the local community as an additional facility for learning. As our children’s safety is paramount the whole site is secured by a border wall and gates. As a school community, we are constantly raising funds to develop the school grounds further.
