Welcome to Northcote Primary School. We are a busy but friendly school, with lots going on. Our Mission to enable pupils to maximize their potential, both intellectually and socially, by creating a stimulating, secure and caring environment in which a broad and balanced education is provided.
School Aims: To help pupils to develop lively, enquiring minds, the ability to question and argue rationally, and to apply themselves to tasks and physical skills. To help pupils to acquire knowledge and skills relevant to adult life and employment in a fast-changing world. To help pupils to use language and numbers effectively. To instill respect for religious and moral values, and tolerance of other races, religions, and ways of life. To help pupils to understand the world in which they live, and the inter-dependence of individuals, groups, and nations. To help pupils to appreciate human achievements and aspirations. To allow each child the opportunity to achieve his/her potential in happy, caring surroundings. To create a school community in which children, parents, teachers work together for the common good.
Reading is at the forefront of our curriculum and at the heart of everything we do at Northcote. From Early Years Foundation Stage to Year 6, we provide our children with daily opportunities to develop their word recognition, comprehension skills, and, above all, their love for reading through our high-quality Phonics, Guided Reading, Home Reading, and English provision. We encourage our pupils to develop their knowledge of a broad variety of genres using high-quality texts as well as developing their own through the use of story mapping, 'role on the wall', and performance.
From Phonics to Guided Reading, we adopt multiple strategies to develop our pupil's reading ability and love for literature. We use Letters and Sounds to teach Phonics at Northcote Primary School. We supplement it with the Jolly Phonics scheme.
We can learn from the minute we wake up, to the minute we fall asleep. Learning does not just happen in a classroom. We want you to learn all the time, through reading, talking, questioning, researching, investigating, listening.
