Our school was built in 1936 on a greenfield site and is now a thriving school with 560 pupils aged between 3 and 11 years. The Foundation Stage, which includes the Nursery and Reception classes, was judged to be ‘outstanding in the last Ofsted report.

We are extremely lucky to have a large site that is dominated by a substantial green space to the rear of our Rainbow Building. This allows ample space for games and learning in the outdoor environment is a feature of all year groups’ learning.

At Monks Orchard, staff works together, sharing best practices to create a happy school, where the working atmosphere is relaxed and informal. We place great emphasis on teamwork and developing together and provide a wide range of opportunities for teachers to work together and with others. We recognize that this ultimately benefits everybody in the school community.

We aim to make children’s time at school as successful and enjoyable as possible. We encourage a close working relationship between home and school to support this aim and welcome parents’ active interest in both their child’s development and the general life of the school.

We aim to provide a happy and stable school environment. All children will be given full access to the National Curriculum. This will enable them, regardless of their abilities, gender, ethnic or social background, to reach the highest standards by realizing their potential and developing talents, and strengthening weaknesses in all areas.

We aim to:-

• Help children to become considerate individuals, appreciating the need for polite standards of behavior, truth, self-discipline, respect for others, and to understand authority and co-operate appropriately.
• We will lead our pupils to appreciate Christian religious and moral standards, also understanding for other religions and cultures - within this school and beyond.
• To encourage lively, informed, enquiring minds, with the ability to question, and to debate from knowledge and fact.
• To teach how to communicate with others appropriately and gain fluency in the English language to do this.
• To develop skill in and enjoyment of reading.
• To help children see patterns in the world around them to develop an understanding of mathematical operations and knowledge of the number skills required in daily life.
• To encourage children to develop curiosity about life around them an appreciation of their environment and how our actions change this.
• To develop the skills for using I.C.T., enabling pupils to effectively meet the demands of information technology in their future lives.
• To teach the basic skills of handwriting and creative arts and skills.
• To give opportunities for children to develop healthy bodies and to gain enjoyment through physical exercise and basic recreational skills.
• To communicate through drama, mime, movement, music, words, and the arts.
• To teach children to be aware of the past, the present, and the future both in our own culture, country and religion and to appreciate the influence and contribution of those of other peoples, countries, and religions.
• To help pupils to contribute to an environment in which teachers, non-teaching staff, parents, children, visitors, and governors, work together for the good of each individual and the community and to apply this awareness to life beyond the school.
• We regard the commitment and involvement of our teachers and staff to be essential to success in achieving these aims and also look to the support of our parents.

At Monks Orchard Primary School we take very seriously our responsibility to prepare children for life in modern Britain. We ensure that the fundamental British Values are introduced, discussed, and lived out through the ethos and work of the school. All curriculum areas provide a vehicle for furthering understanding of these concepts and, in particular, our *Seven School Values, RE, SMSC, PSHE, and Citizenship lessons provide excellent opportunities to deepen and develop understanding. Children embrace these concepts with enthusiasm and demonstrate a good understanding of their application to their own lives and being good citizens.

The school makes considerable efforts to ensure children have exposure to a wide experience beyond their local community during which these concepts are shown, through, for example, sporting events, a range of visits, and use of outdoor education centers. Their strong rooted values-based understanding gives them an excellent platform for embracing difference.
