EduCativPosted April 17, 2021SharePosted April 17, 2021 We tell our children to 'reach for the stars and that's exactly what we do! It is our firm belief that we are capable of so many amazing things and at Mitchell Brook, we ensure our children get the best of as much as we can give them - just to inspire greatness. For us, we must give our children as many experiences as possible to ensure that they are well equipped to succeed in today's rapidly moving society. Our curriculum is carefully designed with the children's specific needs and interests in mind. As a result, our children have the opportunity to experience visiting many different places both locally and further across the country, they work with an author every year, have the opportunity to experience visiting a West End theatre at least twice, have regular instrumental sessions, and much, much more. Our expectations are consistently high not just from ourselves as educators but of the children and families that are part of our community as well. As you will see, Mitchell Brook is very much about community. It is about forming sound and positive relationships built on mutual trust. We have many opportunities for home and school to work closely together. At Mitchell Brook, our vision is for all our children to be confident, self-believing, life-long learners. Through high expectations, the children will develop sound skills for life that include excelling at learning and deepening their understanding of our star values. Through this, we will create global citizens for the 21st century. Create and provide an environment where curiosity is welcomed, inquiry encouraged and excitement of learning is fostered. Provide equality of opportunity to encourage and motivate the children and our community, to have high aspirations and expectations of themselves and others. Promote an understanding, tolerance, fairness, and respect for others. Value families and the wider community and see a strong, positive relationship as integral to the success of our school. Our learners have the opportunity to learn through an integrated approach in which other learning experiences such as trips, visitors, shows, etc are pivotal to the learning experience as a whole. Essentially, we see learning as fun and work hard to make it so! We reinforce our core STARS values to further encourage the children to succeed in becoming successful and confident life-long learners. Successful, Team focused, Team, focused, Respectful, Spirited. At our school, we are very proud to have a diverse school community in which many languages, cultures, and religions learn together. We try to enhance the life of each child, equipping them with the skills and knowledge to take a full part in society both now and in the future. We promote understanding, tolerance, fairness, and respect for others. At Mitchell Brook, working with children and their families and the wider community is seen as an integral part of our school. We know how important it is that this partnership is a strong one. We have exemplary extended services and also provide a lot of extra support for our parents. Within school, our pupils are actively encouraged to make choices and take responsibility for these choices, knowing that they are in a safe and supportive environment. As a school, we have a responsibility to provide boundaries and safety for children through rules and regulations but also give them opportunities to make mistakes and to learn from their experiences. Our Pupils are encouraged to know, understand and exercise their rights and personal freedoms and advised how to exercise these safely, for example through E-Safety lessons. Whether it be through choice of learning challenges, of how they record a piece of learning, or through participation in our range of extra-curricular clubs and opportunities, pupils are given the freedom to make choices. Respect forms one of the school STAR values and this is reinforced in expectations of all members of the school community. Children learn that their behaviors affect their rights and those of others and all members of the school community are expected to treat each other with respect. Mitchell Brook is situated in a culturally diverse area and there is a strong history and philosophy within the school of celebrating cultural diversity. Our programs of assemblies (including class extravaganzas) promote and encourage an understanding and acceptance of different faiths and beliefs through stories and celebrations from a variety of faiths and cultures. Religious Education, Personal Development, and RRSA teaching reinforce this. In RE lessons, members of different faiths or religions are encouraged to share their knowledge to enhance learning within classes and the school, and classes visit places of worship that are important to different faiths. At Mitchell Brook, the curriculum is engaging, relevant, stimulating, and inspiring. This develops the inquiring ‘minds of tomorrow’ into forward-thinking, problem-solving, understanding, and confident potential leaders. By providing a holistic learning experience today, pupils are equipped with the skills to become the professionals of the future. This vision for our curriculum underpins all the learning that takes place in our school. Our high expectations drive pupils to raise their expectations, in learning, in their social interactions, and ultimately in their lives. We encourage independent learning and self-reflection to prepare our students for a future we cannot see while ensuring their academic excellence and well-being remain our highest priorities.View full schoolQuoteLink to commentShare on other sitesMore sharing options...
