Mayflower School is named after The Mayflower Ship, famous for taking early pioneers to America. That pioneering spirit is an inspiration for us at Mayflower School as we strive for excellence in learning. We want all our pupils to be successful and we are constantly searching for new and innovative ways to make learning exciting so that everyone at Mayflower enjoys the sense of adventure learning brings and discovers how learning changes lives.

We know how important it is to work in partnership with parents. Working together we can ensure your child has excellent learning behavior and manners. We have a reputation for being a very friendly school. By joining us you will also be part of creating that friendly atmosphere at our school. Parents and carers can arrange to meet with Teachers and Teaching Assistants at any time throughout the year. We have more formal meetings for parents at different points during the school year.

We have 355 pupils on roll. Our school is well staffed with talented and committed staff. Each class has a full-time Teaching Assistant. At Mayflower, we take seriously our responsibility to prepare children for life as active participants in modern British society. British Values are actively shared and promoted amongst children across the school and opinions and behaviors contrary to these values are consistently challenged. In particular PATHS, P4C, and RE lessons provide children with opportunities to deepen and develop their understanding of British Values. As part of our Mayflower Citizens project, children are enabled to engage with and learn about people from different backgrounds and contribute to their local and wider communities.

Children are encouraged to make positive choices in their learning and behavior in a safe and supportive environment. Children are supported to make a positive contribution to our local and global communities through trips and links with other schools. As part of our Mayflower Citizens project, each class will take part in a volunteering project to contribute to our local area. Whole school-themed weeks, assemblies, and charity events raise awareness of the difference we can make in the world, supporting national and local charities.

Our curriculum is Literacy rich and designed to give our pupils local and global knowledge within a broad and balanced curriculum. Our topics are based on excellent books, storytelling, and visits. This helps put children’s learning in context and also brings learning alive. We want pupils to be talking about their learning and asking questions that shape the learning in their class. We want pupils to persevere, and reflect on learning, to go back and improve their work.

We offer a wide range of learning opportunities beyond the school day which change each half term. We have before school, lunchtime and after school clubs which include art, music, drama, dance, sports, booster classes, computer, reading, and modern foreign languages. Pupils choose the area of learning which appeals to them and learn something new for half term. These experiences give pupils new interests and help them to lead healthier lives. Current clubs include: touch typing for KS1 and 2, drumming, wrestling, Bengali and Spanish, Art, ballet, football, table tennis, and science.
