Llangennech Infant School

The school was built in 1975. It stands in an ideal location on the eastern side of Llangennech village. The M4 motorway is but a mile or so from the school. The building consists of 9 classrooms, a hall/canteen. Some toilets include changing facilities and showers for disabled pupils /staff.

In-School we:

• Provide a happy, safe, and motivational environment that encourages the child to learn.
• Emphasize the child’s development as an individual.
• Emphasize academic and learning success, where each child is encouraged to reach his or her potential.
• Offer a wide and balanced Curriculum.
• Offer eight Welsh language classes and one mixed English language class in latter Welsh is taught enthusiastically as a second language, (Category A/B).
• Aim to reach the highest standard of courtesy, dress, and behavior.
• Encourage close ties with parents.
• Offer excellent facilities and resources.
• Offer many extracurricular activities these include the Urdd, Choir, and Maths clubs as well as instrumental tuition in violin.

The school has two parallel language streams in Years 1 and 2 that allow parents to choose between Welsh-medium or English medium education. The Nursery and Reception classes are taught bilingually with an emphasis on Welsh. During 2014-2015 there are eight Welsh classes and one English mixed class. Llangennech Infant School is part of the Llangennech Schools Federation with Llangennech Junior School and is led by the headteacher Gary Anderson. This school maintains very close ties with the Junior School, as it does with local nursery establishments. Regular meetings are held to ensure an effective transition.

A wide and balanced curriculum is offered, one that is concerned with the child’s spiritual, moral, mental, social, physical, and emotional development. This is achieved mainly by adopting a thematic approach.

School’s Aim: As a Head and as teachers we attempt to:

• Create in school a happy environment that will develop the child mentally, emotionally, physically, morally, and spiritually to the limit of his or her ability.
• Engage the children’s interest in learning, and promote this by offering them skills, ideas, and information as contained in the National Foundation Phase and the Literacy and Numeracy Framework.
• Teach the children to be responsible members of society, more particularly of the community that they are part of.
