Lawndale Junior School is committed to serving its community. It recognizes the multi-cultural, multi-faith, and ever-changing nature of the United Kingdom. It also understands the vital role it has in ensuring that groups or individuals within the school are not subjected to intimidation or radicalization by those wishing to unduly, or illegally, influence them.
Our school reflects British values in all that we do. We aim to nurture our children on their journey through life so they can grow into safe, caring, democratic, responsible, and tolerant adults who make a positive difference to British society and the world. We encourage our children to be creative, unique, open-minded, and independent individuals, respectful of themselves and others in our school, our local community, and the wider world.
At Lawndale Junior School, we meet the requirements of the National Curriculum 2014 document. To meet this requirement, we use the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) to deliver the content. The IPC is topic-based, making the teaching and learning more exciting for the children. Years 3 and 4 follow the same two-year cycle of topics and years 5 and 6 follow a different cycle of topics over two years.
We use the Jigsaw Scheme of Work to teach PSHE. This scheme links to the Prevent strategy so we can meet the curriculum requirements of Prevent. Also, we teach elements of the Prevent strategy through other subjects such as debating controversial subjects as part of English teaching, learning about conflict resolution when studying historical topics such as WWII, and understanding of different cultures and religions in RE and through assemblies. We also hold events such as Diversity Evening to recognize and value the wide of cultures and beliefs in our school community.
safety is extremely important and is discussed in school every week during lessons in the ICT suite when using iPads and in assemblies. We regularly hold parent meetings in school to discuss safety matters, such as social media, Prevent, and rules for using computers and iPads at home.
