We are an HMC independent (‘private’) day and boarding school for boys and girls of some 1000 pupils aged 4 to 18. Based near Cambridge, the Preparatory School caters for the 4 to 11-year-olds at one end of the village, whilst a brisk walk through our parkland brings you out into the Castle grounds which house the Senior School for 11 to 18-year-olds. We are fortunate to have such an attractive campus, centered on Kimbolton Castle, which we purchased from the Dukes of Manchester in the middle of the last century.

We are very much one school: the curricula of the Prep and Senior Schools are aligned our warm, caring ethos starts at the Reception Year and continues through to the Upper Sixth Form some of our staff teach at both the Prep and Senior Schools some of our events attract the whole school community and the vast majority of our Prep School (KS1 and KS2) pupils continue their education at the Senior School.

While academia underpins all that we do, above all else, it is our warm, inclusive, family atmosphere that sets us apart. And that is not just us saying so, it is supported by favorable inspection comments too, including our most recent ISI Inspection report which praised almost every aspect of school life. Our staff is enthusiastic and dedicated. Our pupils are motivated to achieve their very best in all aspects of school life. We strongly believe that developing our pupils into well-rounded individuals is key, to which end we provide a wealth of opportunities in sport, music, drama and a wide variety of other pursuits across the whole age range.

Kimbolton School has a rich history, stretching back over 400 years. Many of our pupils from Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, and Northamptonshire can trace their family line through generations of Old Kimboltonians. Having said this, we are also alive to the present and our 21st Century school embraces pupils from far and wide. Many of our current pupils, whether boarding or day, have been with us throughout their learning, developing, and moving through the school with their friends.

In the last decade, we have seen many improvements to our facilities, the latest of which are a new entrance building and library at the Preparatory School and a new Science and Maths Centre at the Senior School. The latter was the final of many exciting new developments that we published in our last five-year School Development Plan.

Kimbolton School creates a caring, challenging environment in which all pupils are encouraged to fulfill their potential and are given opportunities to flourish in a wide variety of curricular and extra-curricular interests.

We provide a close family environment where young people are educated to be tolerant, socially responsible, and independent of mind, equipping them for our changing world. We are a community that challenges pupils to discover their talents, develop socially and excel.

Class sizes are small and our year groups all have at least two classes so children have plenty of scopes to establish a broad range of friendships while learning to integrate newcomers with ease. Specialist teaching from the youngest of ages brings an added dimension to learning and our enviable private facilities are enhanced through regular access to the first-class amenities at the Senior School. We are an integral part of the wider Kimbolton School community.

A busy extra-curricular program complements our broad curriculum and each actively promotes wider personal development and ensures that every child becomes confident, self-assured, and is well prepared academically and socially to face the challenges that life brings. Our successes are most notable in the outstanding caliber of genuinely rounded boys and girls that move on at the end of Year 6. Almost all of our children progress, with their friends, to the Senior School and the familiar environment smoothes their transition to secondary education at age 11.
